Whats with the 200 MPH rule

I'm not sure it's the 200mph rule that got you, I'd suggest not hitting the ground with your wing.

What sucks now isn't so much the speed limit, but the fact that you can't land anymore with a wingtip missing. It used to be very possible before, if you came in VERY gently, using flaps, and belly landed. You had to belly land because gear in most planes doesn't come down fast enough. If you slow down you dont' have enough lift and you crash.

I tried coming in with a Ki84 missing a wingtip sometime in the past 2 weeks. I was perfectly in control. I was trimmed, had my stick and rudder set. I was coming in perfectly on the runway. I was doing about 175. Too fast for gear or flaps. So I'm slowing down and getting low. I check my VSI and I'm only barely descending. I touch down and *POOF*

I'm in the tower. wtf!

I didn't even kill the prop, just instant *POOF*-age.

I think we've gone to the other extreme (far too sensitive, as opposed to far too forgiving). We need to be able to bring wounded birds back home.

Maybe have it so that higher ditch speeds are allowed on runays? Descent rate limits are the same but you can touch down faster because it's a hardened surface and you don't dig in and cartwheel or anything.

Whatever the idea, we need a little more than we can currently do.

Was it your flying hand?  If so it really wouldn't matter about the uber 200 rule.

Thank you for your contribution to this issue.  I look forward to working with you.

Sadly,

No spoilers on a M201 :)

This is a good indication to keep the ditch model ...just the way it is.

I have seen about 10-15 gearups in the past 20 years and I can tell
you absolutely that grass is your worst option for ditching.  Amazingly
enough the aircraft that gear up on the runway usually only suffer some
paint loss and the boarding step gone.  I admit to not
seeing any highwing gearups, so cannot comment on those.

Now these were not anywhere near 200 mph, most closer to 1/3 that
speed.  If you are ditching at 200 mph, you have clearly lost control of your
aircraft and have no reason to cry when it goes pow.

200 would be wrong to let go. but belly landin and ending up in "front of a hanger "on grass and getting ditch is wrong also. tanks can tower out in field ,and get sucsessful landing ,away from field .why not plane when
on a field? pilot can walk away and is on his own field and gets ditch, is wrong also.
