With the discussions lately on ethics, morality, codes of conduct, and the unsavory nature of emulated warfare, it has occured to me that there is too much competition, too much heated emotion, too much... well, violence in the game.
My squad comes under a lot of fire for our attitudes, responses, outlook, standards, and personalities. It seems to me that this is not necessarily a fundamental flaw in our personalities (even though Ren and Ghost would have you believe otherwise), but a condition brought on by the constant cycle of violent confrontations which are a result of simulated combat over a period of years. All we know in the game is killing. Being killed, or killing others, the game has, to this point, been about nothing but fun and violence.
My concern now is that perhaps it's gone on too long. We've lost what little humanity we possessed, and it's a terrible price to pay. In an effort to offset, or maybe even reverse this effect, I have a suggestion that could make AH far less violent, and possibly help us all to become better people. This idea might strike some of you as revolutionary, perhaps absurd, while to others it will sound perfectly rational and natural.
In an effort to make AH a kinder, gentler game, I am going to make this one heartfelt request of the community; from this day forward, in an effort to show respect and courtesy to other players, a fundamental change in how you play the game. Do not ever, ever, ever leave the tower. Inside the tower, there are no weapons, no death, no destruction. If we do not leave the tower, we cannot HO, ram, shoot, bomb, kill, wound, or otherwise cause ill will among the community. We can not steal kills, fail to give 6 calls, lose SA, or do anything that could possibly bring any sort of harm to another player. Indeed, a Utopian world of war, where we can find out precisely what happens if they have a war and no one comes.
So, let's all park our grim tools of carnage, and, as they say, buy the world a Coke and learn to sing in perfect harmony. Who's with me?
