A rest for our ears. ?
« on: August 24, 2006, 08:02:37 AM »
As I get my 3 oldest kids ready for the first day of school today I had a devine thought..   I was thinking back to when I was flying yesterday and a one of those preteen helium suckers, you know the ones almost, shattered my eardrums or at least my speakers as he was yelling into the mike. This voice was so high pitched that I could only understand every 3rd or 4th word because the rest would just cut out.

So I think to myself, if my kids are going to school now I hope some of these pilots that obviously talk in the hypersonic range of bats will be doing the same. :)

P.S.  I'm not a kid hater but some of you guys have to know where I'm coming from right. )

Permanent squelch lists could solve so many issues. We've been asking for years.

So many times... you adjust your volumes so your squadmates sound great then some young kid comes on and blows out your ears , or half the air traffic controls fighting over being the 1st to call out every con they see scream with excitement rather then talk normal. Lets not mention the guys thats sound like their mic is in their mouth and decide talking louder will fix the issue rather than moving it.

Is it me, or do all the kids same like the same person? Something about the high voice comes through scratchy and broken, and sounds the same.

Its funny, but as much as I hated this time of year when I was a kid, I love it now just as intensely.

Doesn't Silat have a high frequency vox filter he keeps offering to sell?

Musicians use device called "pitch transposer" . It can manipulate different pitch frequency's in all sorts of ways. They cost like 800.00 or something. Maybe all the little munchkins should use one of these. :D Actually that little guy I think his name is everett sounds exactly like one of the other kids. I think he has two computers. :lol One he uses for his bomber runs and another he uses to escort them in a fighter. :lol  I like the little kids that know the game well. Its nice to see them having fun. They are often quite a chuckle.

Doesn't silat use the frequency thing to get pitch of his voice to sound right when he's wearing that dress he likes so much.:D  JK silat.

That was hilarious, Flayed1.  Preteen helium suckers.  Comedy gold.

Actually I need a new set of headphones because a high-pitcher blew out one of my speakers.  And they do break up a lot worse than lower register voices.  Must be the 8-bit stream.  Too bad there's not a leveler in the preamp.

Funny I've thought the same thing. It's always another name, but the voice is the same..........:noid

My wife told me last night I needed hearing aids, and that she thinks it due to playing the game with head phones. I told her I didn't know what she meant. Apparently she talks to me some times and I don't hear her. I bet it's really these preteen helium suckers doing my ears in.

warning boring post coming.

This is not uncommon phenomenon.  I knew a couple that were having severe problems over this and their family doc was smart enough to have them both take hearing tests.  It turned out that both of them had 'good' hearing but their voices just happened to be in a frequency range that the other had difficulty hearing when they weren't directly communicating. While I'm not dismissing the possibility of ear damage from wearing headphones for extended periods of time particularly if the volume is up and you get constant screeches but just something I thought I'd point out.

My hearing is damaged from spending way to many years as a club jock therefore my family knows to be sure to have my undivided attention when they talk to me.

A solemn prayer...

(Bow heads please)

OH, Skuzzy..

Bless thine work, for it brings me hours of enjoyment...

All I ask, OH Skuzzy, is that you bring about, in our small world,  the "Eterna-Squelch".....

....The ability to squelch the audio of those so obnoxious, FOREVER, with a squelch list box that is likewise endless.

It IS within your given java and application development skills, OH gifted one...

For mine ears have been damaged FAR less by leaning against the speakers at a Rob Zombie concert than the shriekeing 2800 Hz "check 6" from a hoard of prepubecent helium-suckers that inhabit the game every summer like cockroaches in the garbage bin behind Burger King.

Grant me this simple prayer, OH Skuzzy!

Amen
