Might not be so far fetched.  Confederate engineers were pretty advanced for the time.  They had built automatic cannons (firing a 2" ball) long before the Gatling gun showed up on the battlefield.  They built the first submarine to sink an enemy warship.  The Hunley's hull design is what the German U-boats later incorporated, and is today considered an advanced hull design.

Now yes, this sounds like a big leap from black powder technology.  However, I would not consider incredulous the thought that If the Confederates had put their mind to building a moon rocket after winning the war, they probably would have.:)

You can't get to the moon when your states in your union start taxing each other.

hmm... thought I knew a little about history but am unaware of the confederate states of America that happened in 1790.

I do know that many northern states wanted to leave the union but it was voted down in those states after a lot of debate for allmost 10 years.   No wars or declartions were ever involved.

Even at this late date the old rumor started by some Yankee that the north won the war. Didn`t know there was anyone out there that would still fall for this gag.

Hmmmmm. Interesting topic Jebus. Based upon my current experience and limited knowledge of American history. I would have to say that a Confederate nation would fair no better then our current democracy. Actually I feel the only reason the confederacy did not win was because of their limited support abroad. If France would have came through. I think it would be a totally different story. Slavery became unpalatable at this time in Europe also. The whole economic machine was based upon  man power in servitude in the southern states. It is kind of amazing that today their is still a thriving slave market in under developed nations in Arabic, Middle eastern and Far eastern countries. But then again our current illigeal immigrant situation is just another form of economic slavery. It is sad how history repeats it's self. "Do you smell the smoke can you hear the fiddle".

Yeah, it's the exact same thing.

Yep, when those Africans snuck into the holds of those ships heading for the New World and tricked Portugese traders into selling them, it was an absolute precursor to the 'economic slavery' we have today.

Do you think those african slaves were most interested in the South's welfare system?  Or was it the thought of sending their wages back to the dark continent?

You knew exactly what I meant! You have people who more or less are sold into servitude, to do jobs that we as legal citizens are unwilling to do.
It is esentially the same thing. Nafta equals slavery. Nice going Ross Perot.

I saw a bumber sticker the other day, it had the Confederate Flag within a red slashed circle (aka prohibited symbol) and it said

"The South will rise again, because s**t floats."

Not saying I agree, but it was good for a chuckle.
