What if Gore wins?
« on: November 11, 2000, 03:07:00 PM »
Let's presume Gore doesn't press legal action with regard to this ballot.

And considering that most all of y'all are Republican (or at the very least, support Bush)...

My question is this.

If Gore simply ends up winning after the recount is complete and the absentee ballots are counted, are you prepared to accept that?

Of course i am, IF he actually wins the recount, which he hasn't yet. After the count is done, on the 17th (the deadline for the overseas ballots), If he does not "win" florida, I think he should concede the election. I think he is only hurting the process, and the country by continually asking for count after count. So far we have had 2 counts in florida, both of them have come up with him behind, if only by a few hundred votes. Those counts DID include some overseas ballots ( i think the number qouted was 5000, i'll have to go look it up). There may not be any more ballots that come in, and there may be some, who knows, it's up to the mail to get them here now.

Heh, I won't be digging any shelters or moving to Canada.  I honestly don't see him covering Florida, but if he does then he's the President (provided we're thru with the suprises that keep popping up, god I hope so).

Sure, it will be the same for me as when Clinton won, or even if Bush wins. I will know that I am surrounded by intrusive idiots at least 50% of the time  .

We still must allow Republicans the same latitude we have allowed the Democrats over these last few days so I would not expect Bush to be the "statesman" Gore was not and conceede.

Besides the republicans still hold the house and senate.

Sure, after the Democrats count the same ballots enough times to get the numbers they want, I will support Gore. I raised my hand and swore to uphold the Constitution, I have no choice really. I'll just have to prepare myself for another 4 years of being deployed to toejamholes 50% of the time. In the past 8 years of the Clinton fiasco, I have spent 4 of them away from my family in one godforsaken place after another. I love going to places I've never heard of because some git in Washington thinks these countries should be just like us, and we need to "police them." Well, enough rambling. I've got packing to do. *sigh

I will never accept Bore..NEVER!

I may have to LIVE with him but I'll never accept him.

This re-re-count is absurd and for them to think the American public is so stupid that we can't see it's just a stall tactic to either 1) actually keep re-counting till Bore wins or 2) till they find the loop-hole they need.

I have been reborn a new man!

Notice I never said a better man.

Well... how about this loophole?

Indianapolis Star (local paper) states that the Electoral College can vote on the 18th with whatever states have declared results (apparently this is provided for in the Constitution). Those states not declared are discounted. Majority wins. If this is true, anyone see the Dem strategy a bit clearer now?

...and the answer is, no, I can't abide Gore any more than I can Clinton. I won't go busting out store windows and steal TV's, but I will do whatever is within my constitutional rights (that is until Gore and Hillary are done with them) to resist their intrusions in my life.

It'll be a sad day in U.S. history.

It'll be an embarrassment for the country

Life will go on, we made it through 8 years of slick willie

I think the jury is still out on that....

If Gore "wins",  the Republican House and Senate will reduce his sorry-ass to a quivering mass of jello.  Imagine when that lying dork tries to make legislation.

Of course, to Clinton/Gore, the Executive Order(i.e. dictator) is a definite option.

I just watched them finish the hand ballot count. When it didn't go there way. They immediately ask for a county wide hand count. Does anyone here doubt that when that doesn't go there way. They will ask for another count of some kind.

The only effect I can see, in the long run, is that people like me, who have always voted for the man, not the party. Will be shocked.
The democrats will never get another vote from me, no matter how promising the candidate looks. You have my word on that.

Actually, there is a very real possibilty that Gore will win.

Pat Buchannan (sp?) got 3,600 votes in a county he did not even campaign in.  Even he says that those votes are most likely Gore supporters who were confused on the ballet.

The state of Florida, please correct me if I am wrong, sent out an example of the type of ballet that would be used for the election.  Come election time, the ballet had changed and confused a lot of people.

Those 3,600 votes would put Gore over the top in Florida and he would win.

Go Stockwell Day!

Heh and you republicans realize that many dems feel the exact same way about Bush.

That's the nature when you have these two party system with candidates who are basically too close together to be any different.

It'll be more of the same, no matter who wins.

Raub, I guess you signed up for the military voluntarily. You shouldda expected to be placed in toejamholes  .

Kidding aside, there's some truth to it, no?
