I'd like to believe that 'vets' try to contribute positively to the AH community in whatever ways they can.  This can include how they carry themselves in the arena and on 200.  It can be in helping newbies learn the ropes.  It can be on the boards with advice or help.  I can be through their work doing aircraft skins or maps.  It can be through all the special events stuff, scenarios, snapshots etc.

Basically I think you've made 'vet' status when you recognize a responsibilty back to the game and community and do your best to make it better.

:aok

Mars I think 3 years might be a little long depending on the person, learning curve, time in game, etc.. but probably spot on for the average guy that doesn't have a lot of spare time to spend playing.

Noob, vet, I don't care so long as my skills are improving, I'm enjoying the game, and I remember to help out people I can.

Despite our issues, I think you are a Vet Storch, which is one of the reasons I get upset at you sometimes. Being a Vet has nothing to do with skill, it has to do with having "been around".  You may not know it, but people do look to "Vets" to get their ques as to how to conduct themselves, and many times Vets (me included) fail show them the right way.

To paraphrase the old joke:

"I cant define a Vet in words, but I know one when I see one."

the price was dropped the following month to the current $14.95, changing AH forever

Wow saw you on the news.... car stopped in the middle of the hiway with a guy in it that had a killer look in his eyes and a white knuckle grip on the steering wheel and foot jammed down on the brake..... and all you were actually trying to do was rudder left for a roll on 6. Now I have to contact the News and fill them in.

P.S. I'd maybe stop playing AH on the lappy while driving

fighting 1 on 1, losing, then saying 'good fight, can you teach me that move?' makes you a vet.

I was thinking about this some more while out mowing the lawn on this day off of mine.

Where the 'vets' have failed is in that as the 'elders' of the AH community, we've not done enough to slow or stop the degredation of the game play in the MA.

It's easy to see it happen, and the guys who have called us out on it, have been shouted down by the masses to accept things the way they are.

FT being taken by Rooks today speaks volumes I think.  The mob mentality wins.  Right now if you limited the MA to LA7s, Spit 16s, 110gs B24s and goonies, they'd be perfectly happy.

There are enough 'vets' who condone or support that kind of gameplay that those trying to be the voice of reason get drowned out.

I don't have an answer, and I don't know that the 'vets' of the AH community have the actual desire, outside of a vocal few, to try and change things.

I'd almost suggest letting the fracture break all the way with MA remaining Air Quake and those who actually enjoy ACM and not win the reset, HO at all costs, go to the AvA and fly the midwar birds etc.  The Air Quake mob seems to have overwhelmed the MA at this point.  It would be up to the ACM vets to make the move and actually populate the AvA and have at it.  Somehow you'd have to have some control over the griefer's too as you can bet, as they do in FT, they'd try and screw it up.

I know when I logged on last night and went to FT, the first thing I encountered were vulching LA7s and N1Ks, followed by flights of B17s trying to bomb the base.  It was a bad omen and very discouraging as my own team's response was to go and do the same.

10 years x 365 days = 3650

1500/3650 = a day - even with its issues, it's still a great value

A noob can recognize the game for what it is and play accordingly. This is why all noobs aren't dweebs and some 'vets' are. :)

As for trying to 'contribute positively', 'recognize responsibility' and 'make it better'....been there, did that for over 5 years in another game. In the end, burned me out bigtime, I don't plan to go there with AH.

Being that I am a "Noob" (been with AH2 for a year now), and reading the post's, I see a lot of suggestions of what the vet's can do.  Well, I choose to think that over the year I have evolved into a mediokre furballer.  I love down and dirty fights in the -1 hog, and love the spawn point tank fueds.

Don't get me wrong, I've been involved in vulch fest's, score mongerin, and land grabs, but am outgrowing that stage.  What I would like to know is, what can the Noobs do? How can we get them involved in the boards and the shaping of the game.  Obviously "we" (the noobs) are a growing part of this game.

You're not a vet unless you paid $2 per hour

Those early years were an investment in the game!  (Thats what I tell my wife)

A vet is pale, has bloodshot eyes, hands shake unless they are on the joystick.  He doesn't have many "real" people he can call friends unless it's the pizza delivery guy.
