I hear that RB26DETT is very strong, lighter too.  If swapped, it will give better 50/50 balance.  Nissan claims RB26DETT stock produces only 280hp but in real life it produces a whopping 350 hp stock.  If you do a serious upgrade you can push it to 500-700 hp without internal mods

Fandango...now that's a good flick as well.  Haven't found it on DVD yet.  DnC was my childhood, Wiley Wiggin's character was a little bit older than I was at the time but I went through the exact same ****.  All of the high school character were in my neighborhood though, so everytime I watch DnC it's like a memory of my youth coming back to life.  Ahhhh...the '70s.

Just ran the VIN through autocheck:

01/18/2006  CA  131,244 miles  State Agency  PASSED EMISSION INSPECTION

Something ain't kosher there.

{edit} I saw his disclaimer on the ad.  That is kind of odd too.

Don't worry about the auto trans.  My bro had a 1994 or 1995 Z28 with the auto and he loved it.  He bought a programmable shift kit for it and it had 3 settings, normal, med, hard as hell, selectable with a little control dingus he mounted next to the cig lighter.  The autos are just as fast as the manuals on the drag strip and don't wear out your left knee in rush hour traffic.

I also prefer the manual because of the type of racing I do but if I wasn't racing autox, the auto would be a good alternative.  Only downside is that the 6 speed manual overdrive gear is really really tall which helps highway fuel efficiency more than you'd expect.  If I keep it 70 or slower, I can still get 30 mpg on today's alcohol-diluted gas.  My best ever trip averaged 34 mpg between Vegas and Mt Home Idaho, but since then they changed fuel forumulas and now the best I get is 30ish.  An auto will lose 2-4 mpg on long trips.  Not that big of a deal really unless you put a LOT of miles on the car, and not wearing out your knee may be worth the extra fuel cost.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Nice looking ride, Diablo.........I haven't had the pleasure of owning one of the latter generation F-bodies, but have owned 8 of the 2nd generation and one of the 3rd generation cars.
I agree, the LS engined cars (and trucks) are pretty awesome.  My current vehicle, a 2002 HD2500 4x4, has the 6.0L engine, and if things work out the way I plan, I will be adding an STS turbo kit to it in the spring, along with some other engine mods, like better heads, change the cam, etc, and beef up the 4L80E to handle the added power.  Gonna be pulling the Vortec 350 out of my son's 1985 GMC Sierra and this winter and swapping in a complete 5.3L and related EFI setup, using MegaSquirt (just have to borrow a laptop for the tuning) so he will be kinda sorta modern when he gets his license.
Dunno what to think about the mileage discrepancy you posted above.  Now I would be suspecting fraud and be very very leery of the car.  Might do some more digging before you lay out the cash or sign anything obligating you to the car.

Just my thoughts....................

Guy are u serious?? these things make no toruqe. I have seen a 96 skline and camaro both stock race, no contest. leave that crap in japan. I have seen 600 horse power ls1's and its common to see one run a 9 sec or better. One of the big things im starting to see is v8 in small jap cars. The toruqe throws these things down the track.  Its a joke when i see these guys in hondas with no back seats and all these mods telling me "ur v8 is too heavy, im lite ill smoke u", all they do is watch tail lights fade away. Torque is ur friend

Ls1 is a great engine and i really would like to see gm bring it back into there current production models(new camaro), but i dont agree with the price of it. I have seen plenty of camaro/trans and in the add they always put in bold ls1, and those 3 letters/number jack the price up high. it performances good, it lasts long, it is easly modded, but this is what i expect and this is what i should be geting for a cheaper price. Its a ur basic 350 small block chevy(i know its a 346) with a solid 300 horse, nothin special, and nothin thats hard or expensive to produce. If it was a huge 502 with 650 pounds of torue then i would say a word, but its just a small block, somethin that is fun to drive and fun to mod. The car makers wont to bring back muscle cars, they have to remember that they werent expensive. Just my 2 cents, i just dont like with the auto makers are doing.

Diablo check that, it looks funny. Run it through another system maybe, car fax.

There's no replacement for displacement.

A lightly tuned LS1 is enough to destroy the ricers and enough to compete with tuned Supras, 300Zs.

Btw on honda VTEC engines... I noticed that you get the highest peak torque at mid-higher RPMs.  It's the reason why people complain why they get no torque at low rpms

No racing for me for at least another 6 months.  I've been out of the country for almost 3 years now.  6 more months in Korea and then back to TX.

When I get back, I'll start racing again.

Ok, well, I went to do my personal inspection of the car today but when I got there was told they were doing their "quality control" inspection.  Arrgh.  This is the 3rd Carmax dealer it's been at in 5 days.  So I get back in my rental and drive around the car lots of SE Houston.  I stumble upon a lot wihth 7 f-bodies.   All automatic and all modded or abused beyond my buying limits.  It is truly like finding a needle in a haystack around here for an LS1 with a M6.  Still, I like the Z I've found at Carmax and call it a day.

That milage discrpency was for that Ferarri, not my Z.  I've already verified the background on that car.

As for the new Camaro, it's reported to be coming with an LS2, which is still in the LSX family so bk, keep yer painties unbunched.  I am going to drive this Z until the new one's come out and probably use it as a trade for a new one, 2 or 3 years after they've been out.

Still, waiting (for both cars) sucks.

I have been following this car since it was unvieled in detriot last year. Its getting the ls2 and its really likely that it gets the ls7 for a zl1 model, and now there talking about a ls4 rs with 315 and a z28 ls4 with 350 horse.
