I've never heard of a "mic card".

Just go buy a Sound Blaster 5.1 card.

They are cheap.  Only 30 dollars.  I bought one 4 years ago for that price.

Take a step back.
In Windows and windows ONLY, can you record a .wav file with your mic?

When you say others can't hear you , please calarify that.
Do others not even see your gameID in the upper right when you try to transmit or they see it and you are transmitting silence?

You need to plug the microphone into a soundcard or the plug for the onboard soundchip. Also try to remove everything but microphone and speakers.

Chances are good that it is setup wrong in windows or muted/unselected/ switched off there.

vid card has nothing to do with sound.
1st- check to make sure mic is plugged into correct port.
2nd- in control panel-sounds and audio devices-volume tab- advance. make sure mic is not muted.
3rd- then go to voice tab and test mic input.

dont worry about roger wilco since it is not used in game.

Hi NOT,

I just did that and  the microphone was not showing anything on the scale,

so i always thought the video card had a sound built into it?? So the sound cards totatally different: then a video card?

so all i need is a new sound card, like sound blaster? that would be cheaper.

let me know ok, NOT. ) id really appreciate it.: is that all i need is a soundblaster?

This is the only game i play: ah1 for 4 years with midnight and 512th mustangs.  i just came back after a year lay off and its like starting over! i love ah2 i miss the microphone though, but if all i need is a soundblaster or something like that. it should be easy to fix.

I'm confused :)

First thing, your mic plug is connected to your sound card.  It has nothing to do with your video card.

If you have sound, you have a sound card.  There is no need to buy a soundblaster sound card.

First, make sure your microphone is connected to the proper plug on your PC.  You may have two plugs.  One in the front of the computer, and one in the back.  You can try both.  Click on the Start button, Settings, Control Pannel.  Open the Sounds and Audio Devices and click on the Voice tab.  At the bottom you will see a Test Harware button.  Press that and follow the instructions.

If you are getting nothing from your mic, there is a good chance you need a new microphone.

Good luck,

Yep, I don't think you need to buy anything at this point.
We HAVE to get your mic working in windows first. Double check those connections and your setup procedure.
From the help file:

Setup

If you have never used a sound program with AH II before, you'll first need to setup and test your microphone.  A microphone will be necessary for recording voice data that is transmitted to other players.

1)  In the sound mixer controls (usually a speaker icon in your taskbar), begin by selecting the microphone as your recording device.  Make sure the microphone playback is muted and boost is selected if it's present.
2)  Test the microphone and playback in your standard Windows .wav recorder.  Look under Start->Programs->Accessories->Entertainment->Sound Recorder for the testing application.

I have onboard sound chip and I send and receive Vox AOK.
If you have a second mic test it with that also, even if its a lousy desktop mic you can use it to troubleshoot things.

Fuzeman,

I just tried that, using a brand NEW mic head set and my old set. it didnt record.

I just bought a new logotech  head set yesterday and still not working.

I think im going to try a new /Download and start all over. im the original idiot when it comes to computers, but i didtn turn virus scanner and firewall off while i downloadef, so maybe that has something to do with it?

What your saying is - if the mic doesnt work in windows,  theres something wrong with the sound card, right? well its not working, im going to uninstall and redownload, and go through all the voice setup one more time, just to make sure i missed something or Corrupt download.

after that i must get a new sound card, right?

No. Mic not working in windows can also just mean there are some settings still wrong. Its not neccessarily your sound card.

Make sure the mic is plugged into the right port.
Then go through the settings again (like fuzeman and others described).

Redownloading the game will not help in this case, since your microphone is not working in windows. If your operating system cant access the mic, then neither can AH.

Maybe you have a friend or relative that works with computers and can help you with setting it up on the phone?

shatzi,

I did that like fuzzman said and the mic was still not registering.

i am going to download ah2 again and go throught the steps in ah help for voice.

heres another interesting thing that happened yesterday:  i wss following the instruction for voice setup and the third step was to click sound recording   -    the ADVANCEd buttom icouldnt activate it by left clicking. ats that mean? the volume was there, but the ADVANCED  -  clicking  on it did nothing, like it wasnt there.

is there something wrong with my p.c.? or should i just buy a bew sound card??

Thanks for info

i have input to this subject

question:

do you have input/output on he front of your pc?

if yes, then you need to go to control panel - sounds and audio devices - advanced (under device volume) - under the microphone volume hit advanced - then see if "Mic2" is selected or unselected.

on my pc "Mic2" enables the front jack, if i have that selected and my mic plugged into my rear jack, it doesnt transmit

might want to check into that, sometimes it resets to Mic2 enabled when one of my games crash, or i alt+tab
