the rush turns to calm as you now are aware and able to handle the situation.  But tunnel vision is harder to get rid of.

Sound packs available in the Custom Skins and Sounds forum above. TrackIR, you'll have to purchase.

Better sounds, especially combined with a good pair of headphones or a nice surround setup really do add a lot, IMO. I use bits and pieces from almost all the soundpacks, as well as borrowing sounds from other games/mods that I purchased/downloaded.

Naw, You're still looking for the one-armed man. I think he was spotted hiding in the indestructable at A52. ;)

602 Squadron Spit IXs in the infamous Longbow Scenario.  It was the first 'sucked me into the cockpit and back in time" moment I ever had in a flight sim, and I remember it like yesterday.

+Dizy, now known as Delirium was flying my wing.  I was leading 10 Spit IXs as rear cover for 2 TAF B25s and USAAF P47s exiting France.  As we cross the coast I see a flash of red, then another.  It's 190s above me.  Below a smoking B25 is crossing the coast outbound on the deck.  More 109s are seen, then I see a lone Jug in trouble with a 109.  I've managed to lose most of my flight but Del is right there as he has been the last 10 years.  I'm hollering at the Jug to break.  He finally does and I've got the angle on the 109.  I get pings but he doesn't die.  But as he also always does, Del finishes him off and the Jug is clear.

More 109s and 190s are appearing and it looks like we might be in trouble.  Then I spot the flight of 5 high above me and it's my second flight of 602 Squadron "City of Glasgow".  Silat is in that bunch and they roll in on top of the bogies trying to kill Del and I.  The fight boils over and I manage to blast a 190.  Fuel is getting tight and I'm yelling for my guys to get out.  We race back across the Channel to Tangmere and I realize I've just been as close to 1943 and my Spit XII heros as I'll probably ever get.

I was absolutely in the cockpit and it surrounded me.

I keep looking for that and it continues to happen now and then in scenarios or most recently in a Snapshot where I was flying a Spit IX covering B26s to France.

A long winded way of saying there's nothing like it for a WW2 Aviation history junkie :)

That feeling went away for me right around the time I knew I was the most Elite pilot in the game.  My skills were so great that no one could surpass my superiority anymore.  Even in 5v1's i yawn as my enemys auger below me.  I only hope someone could surpass or even match my infinite knowledge of flight combat to return that long lost adrenaline.

Sincerly,

Your God.

I agree. A good match between headphones and soundpack is big. I always wanted to be able to use the speakers and blast the sound when I take off in my B17. But with squekers on range and the cronic swearing of the generals I dont bother.

That real adrenaline feeling ends the first time you see a map for the second time. Thats when it ended for me, about 2 weeks after I started. I no longer feel quite the excitement during the fight, but the formations still get my heart poudning with pride. Im still addicted, I find myself up late at night planning out the next day's fights, but sadly, that deep imersion fades, and I miss it dearly. However, on the up-side, a new soundpack brought the adrenaline back temporarily, and, because of Kazaa's lovely sounds everytime I take puffy ack, I get a huge burst. REAL good fights still give me the feeling as well, and if you REALLY want your heart pounding, get a pilot wound in an Ar-234/Me-262. That left me sweating. I actually had to go AFK and change my shirt! I think you should wait on the headphones and new soundpacks until the adrenaline starts to fade. You will need them to bring it back. And I totaly agree on the tunnel vision. Whenever I get that taste of blood, when I get behind someone, I dont let go until one of us dies. If no one check sixs me, you could fly right up to my canopy and throw a beer bottle at me, and id never notice. Ive had one guy follow me for 10 minutes, not firing, waiting to see if id ever notice. He didt kill me, but overshot accidentally. Even as a HUGE P-38 flew over me, i didnt notice until he was out of range, I was focussing so intently on the B-26 in front of me. Tunnel vision is BAD.
