No, the sherman is that fast. But the hellcat would be cool too.

Again, source?  Britanica.com lists top speed of 24-29MPH.  Wikepedia 28MPH.  AllExperts, 30MPH.  Except for this thread, I do not believe I have ever seen a claim the M-4 Sherman could go 40mph.  If there is a variant that could do it, please post the info.:)

Sherman had a top speed of 29mph

M-18 Hellcat had a top speed of 60mph on roads. The Hellcat had a high velocity 76mm which was more effective than that of the M4.

For representative purposes, I would rather see the M4
For Gameplay purposes, I would rather see the M18

Would most likely be the best all around model to work on for the next vehicle to be added. Not just for the numbers that were used in WW2 or that it was used on both ETO fronts, MTO and in the PTO but..... if AH took the time they could get 4 vehicles on one hull.

You could have the standard M4A3 Hull with different turrets to get more vehicles:

M4A3 Sherman - 75 mm gun  (Free)

M4A3 Sherman - 105 mm Low velocity Gun (Free)

Sherman Firefly - 17 pdr gun  (Slightly Perked)

M36B1 Jackson - 90mm gun  (Higher Perked)



BTY, The M4 Sherman's Road Speed was only 30mph and the M18 Hellcat was only like 55mph. Both were slower cross country.

Sherman top speed 29mph on a good day. Cross country (as most of our diving is) then speed drops considerably due to loss of traction, bumps, etc.. Although everyone appears to drive at road speeds across country at the moment.

A Sherman DD would enable amphibious attacks from CVs.

Does anyone know if a DD could fire the main armament while afloat? I suspect not.

And what about that Sherman with rockets on the turret ... :)

It could not.  The canvas "skirt" extended well over the top of the tank, so that it could displace enough water to float.  I believe the entire tank itself was actually suspended below the water.

Take a tall cup, fill it half way with water, and put it in your bathtub and you will see why the DDs had stability problems and needed calm waters to be effective -- and way many swamped and sank in the surf on D-Day.

Called a Sherman "Calliope" due to the "organ pipes"/rocket tubes on top.  60 4.5 inch rockets (going from memory -- not positive about the rocket size).

Apache, Being a big fan of the Panzerwaffe - No one would like to see a PANTHER (especially an Ausf. G) like yours truly.  :aok


However, with that said.... The Germans here in AH already have two of the best tanks in WW2 - the PzKpfw IV Ausf. H (Medium) and the Tiger I Ausf. E (Heavy).

The inclusion of the M4 Sherman would fill a gap that could cover most Allied tanks from 1942 on in the ETO, MTO or PTO. If HTC would develop the M4 like I suggested above - they could get several vehicles for just a little more development by switching turrets - (Same with the T-34/85) - I would think this would be the way to go both historically and in a business since as you can put more vehicles in the game with less development effort.

Doh! Thinking about for a half a second longer - it's blindingly obvious the DD couldn't fire while in the sea - even if the gun was able to fire over the rim (which it couldn't) the recoil would tip it over. The only good effect would be to reduce the enemy to fits of laughter as they heard repeated 'bang', 'plop' - 'bang', 'plop'. A self-destructing invasion force. :D

I don't think the wave height will present too much stability issues

     I'm with the E man here..28mph is the most common quoted speed

Can't agree with alot on this list other than the PANTHER being the best tank out of WW2.  The 75mm L/70 ,while good, WAS NOT a better gun than the 88mm L/71 on the Konigstiger.

Also while the Soviet IS-2 was an improvement - it wasn't a better tank than the Konigstiger in that it took so long to load it's large 122mm gun with two-piece artillery like ammunition the German tanks with their 88mm guns could usually get off several shots.

Still, back to the subject of this post - How about it HTC - we going to see any of the M4 SHERMAN Family anytime soon?  PLEASE!  :D
