I dont and wont wear flip flops or sandels.
I'll wear either boots, hikingshoes/sneakers or go barefoot.
Even to the beach.
The closes I'll come is watershoes .
but flipflops or sandels. No friggen way.
Always hated both even when I was a kid my mother would have to force me to wear either.
then I only would wear em till I was out of her sight

I used to hate sandals, but they are the only option at the beach. Most of the beaches in our area have shellfish, their shells can be quite sharp so you must wear something. When I kayak I often exit onto sharp rocks or beaches with sharp hazards as well. Theres also the danger in shallow water of stepping on something nasty.

You'd look a right nutcase wearing boots in such circumstances

Soldiers don't wear sandals in the water!  Boots will do juuuust fine.  I'm with Drediock on this one.

Real men wear boots. Men should also only have the bare minimum of shoes in the closet and that number should be less than 5 for any type of shoe.


My closet has the following:
1 pair Steele Toe Military work boots
1 pair Uniform Dress shoes
1 pair Civilian Dress shoes
1 pair of sneakers (Reeboks)
1 pair Martial Arts shoes
1 pair hiking boots
3 pairs of cowboy boots (work, casual, and python skin)
2 pairs combat boots (desert and jungle)
1 pair flip flops for use in the shower at the gym.

Of course this is my humble redneck opinion:D

That'd be pretty emasculating, getting hit by a guy wearing Birkenstocks.  

And by "take a swing" you do mean punch, right?  From a guy wearing Birkenstocks I'd more expect a slap or a swinging man-purse.
