I have this old pair of "yard work" shoes that have been basically worn out, they now appear to be a pair of flip flops, does this count ? lol

You'd look a right nutcase wearing boots in such circumstances :)

Ill wear watershoes/socks on such occasions now.

Prior to that...

Well I looked like a nutcase

On the rare occasions I went ot the beach its was not uncommon to see this sight
Sleeveless Tshirt, Cut off Shorts and a pair of black worn engineers boots

And by "take a swing" you do mean punch, right?  From a guy wearing Birkenstocks I'd more expect a slap or a swinging man-purse. :D
ahaha.. ya, I definitely mean punch :lol emasculating if it were a fairy in the birks, yes... with me in the birks, it shouldn't be.. I'm a reasonably big guy :aok

maybe if I'm wearing a pink shirt AND birks.....

Real men could care less about what others think about what they wear and how masculine clothing or shoes make them look.  Real (straight) men don’t really even notice what other men wear.  Real men wear things that are: comfortable, warm or cool, dry, durable, cheap.

Personally, I’ve got a pair of pumps to go with every outfit in my walk in closet.

DESERT != BEACH
(Book of Duh, Chapter 1)

...and I wear Teva sandals all summer, even on the boat, even at the beach, oh my!  And I don't give a flip what you boots-on-the-beach, sleeveless t-shirt wearing, mullet sporting, DMX-listening goobers think.

Pretty much sums up how I feel. Well, except for the pumps part. ;)

This brings up another question. Why would a straight guy want fashion advice from those guys on "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy"? What do gay men know about attire that attracts women or impresses other straight men? If you want fashion advice in this regard shouldn't you ask it of a women or straight man?
