I am getting random dumps to desktop whith my new comp (AH crashes)

I cant play more than 1h before it crashes when I am using my ADSL connection or my internal modem, but when i tryed my old external modem tru com port 1 it worked fine.
But the strange is that it is not the connection that is losing contact whith host it is AH that crashes and I am sent back to desktop, what should I do ??

I just found out that I got a 145w power supply in my comp.

Is that bad, I think I have read somwere in this BB that GeForce cards needs strong power supply´s.

BTW I just installed ZoneAlarm and I am getting attacked by 2 different IP numbers
2-3 times every evening.

Do I allredy have a trojan horse in my comp or what, that is what ZA reports that the port they are trying to attack is used for.

I have nearly that exact system and just went through this. This was driving me nuts, until I finally came across the 4in1 package. You will need to visit the VIA website and download the 4in1 driver update. Use the package with the latest date (you only need the latest one). Also, make sure you check out every device on your system for updates. Make sure you get the latest NVidia drivers, too.

I doubt it's a virus.

Never doubt a virus... always check to be sure. BTW, you should record the IP's that are attacking you regularly, and report this information to your ISP. They may be able to do something about it.

First, get an up to date virus scanning package and scan your machine.

Next, go to www.viahardware.com where you can download and install the latest 4-in-1 driver package.

And yes, a 145 Watt PS is woefully inadequate for your needs. You should get a 300 watt power supply to replace the one you have. This may be the cause of your problems.

This sounds similar to the problems I was having with my new PC. Try disabling your card's Z buffer.

Leph, you're going to have everyone in a panic. I mean, I used to do a lot of system troubleshooting (I work for Sykes Technical Support now). Out of hundreds of calls a lot of people asked me by to check out suspicious activity (hung systems, crashing, BSOD, etc.), and not one was a virus (though the majority thought a virus was to blame). People fear what they do not understand. Not many people understand viruses.

The port in question is also a means of illegally obtaining MP3 files, which the majority of hunters are after today. Most hunters are only snooping for programs/music they can obtain.

As I said, I have they same MB as the original poster. These boards are shipped with drivers that are out-of-date, and they have been crashing often. A simple flash of the bios, driver update, and reboot will fix the majority of problems. This problem in particular is *exactly* what I was experiencing. The 4in1 patch will fix the problem completely.

Still, ANYTIME you find you are under attack advise your ISP's administrator, so that appropriate actions can be taken. Still, I doubt *very* much that you have a virus. Check it out, but the chances are very slim. If you doubt your computer skills, take the time to learn a little something about security, and you will avoid this sort of thing for all time thereafter.

Don't panic, though. You can make more trouble for yourself, than it is worth.

I didn't say panic... just check.

We've had a rash of weird ones showing up in the support I provide here to AH customers, so it's a valid concern. Sure, it's a fairly small percentage, but a virus scanner is something everybody should have anyway. If you scan your machine every once in a while, you won't have to worry about it. More than a few folks have spent days troubleshooting a hardware issue, only to find a virus as the cause of their AH troubles. A quick scan first is best to eliminate it as a possibility, even if it isn't likely to be the cause.

OK ! I have upploaded the latest 4-in-1 drivers from VIA and also uppdated the latest AGP drivers and now it doesent crash often but it still hapens sometimes when I am getting killed by somebody

(maybe that is my comp telling me I am not supposed to get shot down so often )

I am uppdating my detonator drivers now to 7,78 maybe that will solve this last crashes

And I checked my comp for viruses but my antivirus prog did not find any and the attacks at comp have stopped !!!
maybe I was not worth the effort to hack now that I am protected by ZA.

What bus speed are you running at? A number of people were having problems running at 133 and when they backed off to 124 everything worked fine.

Well I think I have found the answer to my dumps i´ve been running whithout my case on this evening and a fan blowing in to it
And I havent had a singel crash this is wonderfull

Tommorow I have to go shoping for fans

I wounder if it is my cpu overheating,should i go for fans in my case or a better cooler for my cpu

Hmm, I should probably say a few things here, even though this thread is old. (Surprised I missed it.

)

First, a 145W power supply is TOTALLY inadequate. You NEED a 300W supply. You should also make sure that you have some case fans in there moving air around.

Taking the side of the case off and blowing air in there will let you discover the problem, but that's only a temporary solution.

(As for the 133 -> 124 FSB thing, that was a specific incident that happened with Ripsnort. That was not actually his problem, he was trying to run pc100 ram at 133 Mhz. By switching out the ram it was fixed. In addition, durons run at 100 Mhz fsb with DDR, (this equals 200 Mhz equivilant). )

YES!

I tried everything to cure my crashes and stutters... it turns out my Geforce 2 is getting too hot.

This heat problem is VERY annoying until you find it. I may have found a quick way to test for it:

Go to a hanger and scroll through the plane list selecting each plane. When I had the heat problem, I could never make it to the bottom of the list.

getting crashes to the desktop here too ...
never had that problem before, so unlikely it's heat related.
i installed patch 3 and nVidia's brandnew Detonator 12.41 drivers ...
anybody else using those on a GeForce2 MX ??
