like to see three perk offerings
« on: October 26, 2006, 03:23:13 PM »
I would like to see two bombers offered as perkies:                                                                                                              1. is the boeing b-29 I think this would be a great addition to the bomber fleet who wouldnt want the payload of a lanc and a ball turret to boot(in addition to all ammorments were 20mm)
   2. Fw condor had one hell of a reputation as a convoy killer,It has  very long range capablities

And my third perkie would be another tank; The Pershing M-46 ,it took on tigers in the late war and really gave them a blackend eye!

Think you are thinking of the M26 PERSHING.

The M46 PATTON (an actual variant of the M26) didn't come out till around 1948 or so and saw neither action in WW2 or Korea, IIRC.

Perked Fw200.

Why would you perk the slowest, most vulnerable bomber in AH (should it be added)?  Even it's bomb load would be larger than only the Ki-67 and Boston Mk III amoung multi-engined bombers.

Yea Rino, but he said the "M-46" not the M-26. That is what I was pointing out.

Agree though, the M26 would be a fine addition to AH.

If anyone is interested - here is some info on some of the M-26's actions with the 3rd Armored Division in the last days of WW2.

we should not add the B29. Sure i even like the B29 but it was used way late in the war, went on few bombing missions, and if its added (even if perked) thats the only bomber u would see flying around

as for the M26...YES we need that and we need more tanks, especially British ones

Well Jester, I know you must be wrong cause I saw the movie Patton.
BOTH the Allies and the Axis had patton tanks, so they MUST have seen
action...after all Hollywood is never wrong :D

the first B-29 mission was flown from India on June 5, 1944, against Japanese-held Bangkok.   I wouldnt exactly say "way late in the war" It was use for the last 13-14 months of the war.

went on few bombing missions
When the Marianas Islands were recaptured in October, the 20th Air Force was relocated there. They were given as many B-29s as possible, since Japan was within flying range of the plane.
the 20th Air Force used B-29s in an intensive bombing campaign against Japan that included traditional and incendiary bombs. As many as 300 bombers were used for each mission, a number that doubled the following summer.
I cant find a reference right now for B-29 bombing missions but I'm pretty sure is was more than "few"

and if its added (even if perked) thats the only bomber u would see flying around
I disagree,  in the EWA the lancaster is perked at about 50-60 depending on numbers and so far I see it very rarely, mostly Bostons and Ju88s.  I'm sure that if the B-29 was added you will probably see a lot of them early because they would be new, but after everybody used up their perk points they would be rare.  especially if they were perked at 100 a pop.

I think the B-29 would fit in here but there are lots and lots of planes I would rather see before the B-29

It was used the last 18 months of the war operationally... 3,000 of them delivered before wars end, over 3,300 built total. As many as 1,000 bombed tokyo in massive raids (wonder how many furballer jap pilots complained about hordes?)

The b-29 actually had a service ceiling some 4,000 ft BELOW the B17

Didnt the B-29 also kill hundreds of thousands of Japanese using firebombs and napalm? I think thats a hefty contribution to a war effort.

I didnt want the B29 before the changes. But now with the LW arena. I think it would fit in well.
