Excellent story, Drelock.  I imagine that if folks here like John9001 were in the same situation, he'd thank the principal, take his kid to therapy, maybe put security cameras all over the house so he could keep an eye on his 'troublemaker', all in the name of security.

Some fo you are acting like this is Bush's fault. Need I remind you that this was a local action and Republicans are NOT in charge everywhere. What politcal party has power in the district where this happened?

Shamus, yer wasting your breath, Lukster will mysteriously disappear from this thread if needed to avoid addressing your inconvenient facts.  Well, mayhaps I've changed the timeline by calling him out.

As a conservative (and yes, I do in fact believe in minimal government interferance in my life), I think that any event taking place on the grounds of a public school, of this intensity, size and proportion, need to provide prior warning to the parents and students...If the parents were prior warned, I dont see anything wrong with this drill, because it very well may be a situation the police have to deal with, and if thats the case, parents will ask why?  why didnt the police ever train to combat this type of activity in light of recent events in the US?

so in the end, the super intendent of the school system did a poor job...It was his responsibility to notify parents that a law enforcement drill, vital to keeping their children safe, would be taking place on oct such and such...For training purposes, this drill would be very intense, as to simulate a real life scenario.  If you or your child does not feel comfortable in participating in this demanding drill, please keep them home from school on this date....

thats all he had 2 say

Cav I agree with you..up to the point of the pat downs. I dont like to see kids acclimated to this type of treatment, and it is not needed if the sole purpose of this drill is training the officers.

I can't think of a scenario that would justify patting every kid down in the first place.

What about an outbreak of free speech on campus?  That might warrant tear gas too.

The only scenareo I can think of that jusifies the patting down of a kid is if he commited or is suspected of having commited a crime.

Do you mean an outbreak of free speech as in the kids saying what they think, or the kind of free speech outbreak where a mob collectively stifles an opposing point of view?

I agree. In that case, pat down that kid. I can't wrap my mind around the idea of lining all the kids up against the wall and searching them.

Michigan is a blue state. That means most folks vote democrat. I'm wondering which political party the mayor of this town represents. Guess I'll have to look it up myself.

Chairboy, I make my points. Arguing with you is like beating my head against a brick wall and just as pointless. You want to assume you've "won" an argument just because I don't beat the dead horse with you go right ahead.
