my home made pedals
« on: November 02, 2006, 12:02:35 AM »
since i didnt feel like spending $100 and up on a set of pedals i made my very own cheep bastige pedals
got some pics here

i used 2 hinges, 2 eye hooks, wood, wood screws, 4 metal pulleys,  1 wingman attack 3 logicrap joystick (that i stripped down).
cost me around $30 because i had the wood lying around the house from when the people next door built their house.
please tell me what you think.

So, you just push a pedal down, and it pulls the axis sideways? Push the other down and it pulls it the other way? You run into any problems with slack cables, or pulling the stick off its base, or anything?

Pretty innovative way of doing it, if you have that much room under your desk (mine is pretty cramped).

LOL, i did have problems with slack cables early on.... but i got em adjusted and glued right now so it should be a good while before i have to re adjust them, and yes i push down on one pedal it pulls the axis in that direction, it also raises the other pedal that is not being pushed. i have not run into any problems with the stick coming off its base..... because i have it bolted down like my saitek on my chair.

Quite a resourceful job there.
Try using turnbuckles to take up the cable slack, they'll give you a positive means of adjustment for centering them.

How clever!

I pulled the top off of an old wingman and tried to use my toes to move it side to side, but this didn't work out for me.  You took it a step further, or perhaps many steps further.  The wingman I tried to use for this was a force feedback that I had lost the power supply that is supposed to accompany it.  Perhaps I should build a large wood and pulley apparatus around mine as well modeled after your design.

make sure you pre drill ALL of the holes, or you will learn like i did that the eye hooks will split the wood on the pedals :cry
