These are the only two pictures that I know of of my grandfather's b17 "Tain't a Bird."  The first was taken by its first crew when it was forced down in fog in Greenland.  The second is a nice action photo.  If anyone knows of any photos of B17 42-30342 I would love to see them, especially nose art.

.

This plane met its demise as part of "Operation Aphrodite" which seemed like a harebrained sceme when my grandfather told me about it but it's documented on the web and wasn't too bad of an idea.  Unfortunately due to primitive RC gear at the time, it was a complete bust.

Oh pleast dont ask that.
I've reached my self imposed allotment for being modded for the quarter

:cry

How can you recognise the glory of war without recognising the cost of the glory?

I often surf the web with my nine year old daughter looking over my shoulder.  While it IS important for children to learn the cost and brutal reality of war, the proper time and method for that lesson for my children will be MY decision, not yours.

Never said it was MY decision.
I taught my son at 7.
My daughter at about the same age.

Like scary movies its up to the parent to decide when their specific child is mature enough to handle such things.

I agree with you in principle.
But. I still stand by my point

I have/Had no intention on posting any more pics like that.
But. its because Skuzzy and HTC doesnt want them here
NOT because you dont

you must be doing a great job if she is looking over your shoulder while you play at cartoon war.

look.  i apologized to skuzzy for that very reason and i made a statement about my personal views with regards to war and the glamorization of the subject.  i was reasonable in the expression of my views.

since then, nobody has posted any more pictures of that caliber and yet rather than letting a sleeping dog lie, our poster has insisted that it be carried further by reposting the same thread with a different coat on and then insulting those who happened to disagree with them on the subject.

- true story.

a year or so ago i had an image thread up.  one of the pictures was the famous photo of a viet cong getting his brains blown out by a vietnames regular.

nobody protested.  not a word.

it's not unusual to see things in here that are a bit more adult than are on the other rooms on this BBS.  (within reason of course...this is a VERY WELL MODERATED FORUM.  when people get upset, it gets moderated.  the subject matter and conversation has a tendency to be a bit more intense and people can get a bit hotter than in other places.  it takes a bit to get used to, longer to develop friendships and then to learn how to blow off an insult and realize that everyone has a right to an opinion.

i had to put lasz on ignore for 6 months before i could stand to read him.  i am sure he would hate to hear this, but he's gotten softer btw.  he doesnt even phase me.  he's downright fuzzy.

in the end, we all have to be adults.

as for teaching your children, i do not presume to do so, nor do i wish to.

that's your job.

and i dont envy you that.  you are going to have alot of work to do to keep them from seeing pictures of the holocaust or of people being killed on television or people with thier clothes off.

P.S. - another thing.  it might be a good idea to avoid opening threads that are entitled "War photos" if you do not wish to risk the possibility of your children actually seeing war photos.

MPs  feel free to delete this if you feel that i have broken the rules.  felt it important to say it.  thanks.

Post pictures of aircraft but don't violate the rules of the site. The last thread I started made some folks think that they could give a lesson on how bad war can suck.Just post the airplanes. Also, scuzzy shut the posts
down because of the graphic nature of some of the  pictures.
