How are the requirements for more RAM or better performance with a faster processor different with the upcoming release of Vista as opposed to the release of XP or 98?

great deals for 2GB of ram for $200 or heck even a conroe for not much more. Beats the heck out of $150 prices for 4MB that went in for my first 95 install.

I am not trying to apologize for M$ but each and every time they roll out a product the same bandwagon gets rolled out.

btw this is being typed on a MacPro with intel Xeons with bootcamp of WinXP and OS10.4

The jump from 98 to XP was not nearly as bad as XP to Vista in terms of performance and RAM requirements.

The jump from 98 to XP also brought along many fixes to the overall architecture of 98.

Vista brings diddly-squat to the party except a ton of bloat, more restrictive DRM, more intrusive remote management, more restricted admin rights, and many other useless things which are there to help Microsoft and OEM's, not the user.

I just bought a laptop and it came with the free upgrade coupon. I would'nt even think about useing it. For one I think its pointless to the user. Its just what skuzzy said noting but bloat. Two I hate windoh's and Microsoft all together.

the 32 bit verson works alot better then the 64bit (the 64 is still lacking )
as for perfomance of AH in it ... well it works but the fps in anygame isnt much to brag about its down about 20%

I pretty much have to get Vista as I'll need it for work but don't want to screw myself when running AH.

They will take my nice, stable, low resource demanding (after you strip it down) WXP from me when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers.
I fully intend to go kicking and screaming before switching to Vista.

Was that over the top?

I suspect a slew of complaints about stutters will come from constant HDD paging, especially from non-SATA drives.

But none of this is HTC's fault. What the heck is a developer to do? Build graphic retro games to overcome the OS? I pity the poor folks buying a standard configuration Dell or Gateway and being frustrated to no end.

I pity guys like Skuzzy more, since it's gonna be your fault in their eyes. "Hey! Your crappy game doesn't run and I have a new, $1500 machine!"

Already feeling that pain Rolex. People buying new HP/Compaq coimputers with 64+ processes in the background, with a $2 video chip, and a $0.50 sound chip wondering why the machine plays worse than the machine they just replaced.

I cannot imagine the nightmare OEM's are going to be creating with Vista. Actually, I can imagine it and it aint' pretty. Barely enough RAM to run the OS, to keep the costs down and tossing thier 30+ processes on top of an already bloated OS. Damn, I really wish I could afford to retire.

I never understood why OEMs have to pack their systems full of unnecessary crap that most of the time only makes it harder to use the computer.

Megadud, Apple will run Windows applictions via Boot Camp. I use it to run AH. The rest I use OSX and the Mac side.

This is the most succinct description of how bad Vista is going to suck I've seen so far.

I had a funny moment with Vista Beta and Office 2007 Beta when I saddled them up on a brand new PC at work and Office wouldn't run at all on it. I was like 'oh yeah, this is gonna be AWESOME'.
