A new song, just recorded.

Thanks sluggish.

Yeah, I have a bunch of complete songs, mostly on cassette tape and the masters on 1/2" tape were thrown away a few years ago.

Some of the things those guys are saying about the singing and playing are true. I even mentioned it in my post that the singing and playing were rough.

As you mentioned, these are just on the fly playing and singing as I came up with it and I wasn't worried about the sound quality. The idea was what I was asking about.

I actually laughed out loud at WMLute's comments.:D  Some of the most boring guitar players in the world are the one's that are technically very good, but can't come up with anything that is original. I don't know if you are being serious or not WMLute, but really.......do you think that I'm in need of basic guitar playing advice just based off of what I gave you? I have been playing for 24 years. If I wanted to record guitar and make a radio quality demo, I could easily do that. I'll try to find some old demos if you want.

The stuff I have been giving out here are just thrown together in minutes and recorded then posted. My pic is whatever I find around....like a quarter. The strings on the guitar are probably 4 years old and the guitar is tuned below concert pitch and is very loose. Even so, it gets the idea down.

As for singing. I could record the guitar track seperate, then learn the song and record the vocals separate and nail the thing if I felt like it. I could learn the song, play and sing it and nail it too if I had really cared to practice it even a little before recording it.

Did you guys hear any of the pros on the CMA's live performances? These guys are mega stars with mega hits and a lot of them sounded so aweful live. Rascal Flats would not have won Star Search sounding the way they did. The vocals were horrendous. It's not as easy as you think to play and sing live.

Sluggish, it's probably the fact that I was classically trained on guitar that makes me cringe when I hear a guitar being butchered.  I don't have an "issue" really with odd finger placement, IF you can pull it off.  I could care less if you use your feet, as long as you make it work.  I am willing to bet I was spot on with how byebye was holding his hands and using the pick.

byebye, I would love to hear something you "tried" on.  I really would.  I actually am a fairly good judge of this stuff.  I would really dig hearing what you could do.

I am probably being so tough on ya' because of that 1st post where you were going on and on 'bout your talent, and I have as of yet to hear anything that would be considered remarkable.

Kudos to you for posting your stuff.  I sure as heck wouldn't do it in a million years, so I will give you credit for that.  Keep with it.  And please consider the advice for a teacher, both vocal and guitar.

I too have played 24 years ish, ( might be 23 ) and I know I could use one.  You never really stop learning on this stuff, and you sound "rusty" if not just plain in need.  A good teacher would be able to break you off the many bad habbits I hear in your voice and playing.

It sounds like a cheap, poorly set-up guitar with old strings on it to me.  I don't have the super-human ability to "see" finger placement.  LOL

(I hear what you're saying though)

Ha! :D

He sounds like most people do after they've fooled around with a guitar for about a year. He's confusing sloppy and clumsy as style and reaching up and down for notes while whining as singing. It's truly embarrasssing to listen to since it reminds us of what we all sounded like when we started playing in our early teens.

Here are two songs from 16 years ago. They were recorded at home and the only copies I have left are on cassette tape. This was taken from cassette, so the sound is kind of fading.

I might find some more and I'll post them if anyone is interested. I have a couple boxes of old cassetts.

Colorful Rain

Spirits and Ghosts

These were demo tapes made on an 8 track reel to reel.

Rolex, I seem to remember that you played and recorded. Do you have any original songs that you performed that you could post. I'm not above telling you that you are better than I am, if it's true.

I would like to hear your live performance before a 30k crowd. If you played in front of a crowd that large, then that beats me by many miles. I'd like to hear it.

I tried looking up "Swiss Wrist" but couldn't find anything.

Thanks Diablo.

I think that a lot musicians that are "trained" are just narrow minded. They usually like to follow a mold and be "correct" while playing. They usually sound like robots.

Kind of like Mr Spock, when they hear something that does not conform to the book that they follow, they can't understand it. Basically, nothing original comes from the die hard technical robots.

That being said, I would like to hear some of Masherbrum and Rolexes original recordings. Live would be great.

Contrary to popular belief, the 80's rocked.  Yeah, alot of it sucked but alot of it didn't.  I'd go back in a hearbeat.

As for the training aspect, yeah I agree with that assessment.  I think that clean playing is awesome too, don't get me wrong, no one like Eric Johnson more than me, but IMHO "sloppy" untrained musicians tend to communicate better.  And that's the part of the 80's that I hated...the last 5 years seemed to be nothing but a shred fest between guitar players.  Thank god for Stevie Ray Vaughan!!!!!

Not bad.  Nice bass playing on the second song.   Nice poppy sound.  Nice vocals.  GET THE BAND BACK TOGETHER! YOU'RE GONNA BE A STAR!

The difference between you and I is that I have never claimed to be talented, great, or even competent. I suck. Drunk people in bars will listen to anyone, even my last pathetic band.

Here are two very crappy songs from the end of my "rock" phase a few years ago. I don't play live anymore and I have no illusions of talent.

First crappy song

An even crappier song
