Yep, no problem here either with default forward view.  I have a standard 4:3 ratio screen.

If anything, view seems better now than it used to be for the F4U-1 -- I feel that I can see more over the nose than I used to be able to do.

Skuzzy can explain this better, but basically there is a limitation with DirectX that limits the FOV (field of view) to 90 degrees. Since the 4:3 aspect resolutions (like 1280 x 1024) are already at 90 degrees, switching to a 16:9 aspect resolution means that part of the top and bottom of the views are "chopped" off when the image fills the screen. (the only other option would be to "stretch" the left/right edges like wide zoom on HDTV does).

Either run at a 4:3 aspect resolution, or buy a TrackIR and it's not an issue.

(I received my TrackIR yesterday and have no idea how I've ever flown a flight sim without one.  ;) )

True, lol!!  I said the exact same thing to some squaddies last night, hah!

I did what Hajo and Wide said and just adjusted the seat downwards til I could see the lower ammo counter and tell whether I'm dropping my fuel tank or firing the mg's and it's good enough.  I feel like it defeats the purpose of having the extra-high canopy in the bird though; wasn't that specifically designed to lift the pilot higher up in his view for better visibility over the nose of the a/c?  Maybe I can switch one of my buttons around on my joystick to the 8+0 view and still get the advantage of the high seat.

Guess I just got spoiled from the old D's views...still hella fun to fly.  Fun to see so many people in them too!  Thanks again!  Really makes me look forward to what's comming next!

*edit* Calan I hear ya!  I've wanted one for years and I keep leaving the website up on my wife's PC when she gets up :D   Track IR and the new Saitek pedals should be a very nice birthday present this month on the 24th :aok

This gave me an idea ... I have dell monitors that have a native resolution of 1600 x 1200 that can be physically rotated 90 degrees so that they are taller than they are wide. I tried manually editing the resolution in the AH config file, and sure enough it works. This is awesome for seeing further ahead during a turning fight .... muhahahahah! :)

This resized screenshot was originally taken at 1200 x 1600:

My plane has gone from being "Big Blue" to Ugly Betty.
HTC< go mess with the P-38's or better yet the LA-7's

If you're using a non-traditonal (non 4:3) screen aspect, you have to expect some limitation in POV. That is something you have chosen to compromise, not a limitation of the game.

My memory is that most Corsair pilots couldn't see six... Check six just means 'TURN'.

There is a F4U-1D at the Hampton Air & Space museum.  On that F4U-1D is a rear view mirror located on the top of the canopy.  It seems some innovative pilots and ground crews figured out how to get around the poor rear view.  Otherwise, you can't see anything behind you in a RL F4U-1 no matter how you crank your head.

I've seen similar mirrors on a Spitfire (not sure what version) at the Simithsonian institute.  Not that putting rear view mirrors in AH would be good, but people have worked this 'problem' before.  I think the cockpit views are fine (I use 1280x1024 resolution).

I cannot see the airspeed guage in f4u1a after 200mph..And the pilot will not move back 1 inch so i can save the head position..I have to use the move down command in flight if i want to see my airspeed.

Please fix.
