In the beginning, there was

A clear voice.

Hitech – 01-26-2001

Gentlemen don't get into the specifics ask yourself 2 question.
1. Do you wish to make capture easyer or harder?

2. Do you wish caputures to require more team work or less.

Start with those questions and see where it leads you.
In the beginning, there was Aces High,
and it grew.

In the beginning there was an airfield. And all was good.

And Aces High grew.

Then there came a map room and troops. And two guys could capture a base. Players were spread all over the map but a fight could still be found.

And Aces High game play was good.

Then came a small town and the map room was moved. It now took 4-6 guys to capture a base and players were spread all over the map but a fight could still be found.

And Aces High game play was good.

Some young squads that wanted to roll up bases on squad night couldn’t succeed. They gathered more and more members until even with 32 they couldn’t make a capture consistently. They were mostly ignored by the community.

And Aces High game play was good.

Then came a larger town. It now took a whole “mega squad” to ensure consistent captures.  Squads got organized and started forming formal Alliances for base captures on squad nights.

And Aces High game play was good.

Other player countries saw what was happening and formed formal Alliances of their own.

And Aces High game play began to falter on those nights.

The formal squad-night alliances developed into the informal horde marching across the terrain 24/7, gang banging undefended bases while the other countries did the same in an endless cycle.

And Aces High game play faltered.

The arena was split asunder but no other changes were made.

Squads, Alliances and the informal horde coalesced into single countries in areas where base capture was more likely against foes with lesser numbers. If failing the numbers advantage, they moved to an arena were they could achieve base captures on a more consistent basis.

Aces High responded with anti-aircraft guns to supply AI opponents to slow the horde.

The horde moves across the map more slowly and the gang bangs last longer but the maps don’t reset as often.

The voice is dim now, but it can still be heard out of the past…

Maybe someone still listens to that voice.

Of all the changes, I believe the larger town size is primarily responsible for the game play degradation over the last year and a half.  It has brought about the concentration of the average players into the horde we see in the MA.  While I like the field ack, it will not improve game play or stop the horde mentality.

i remember the towns on the fields and the small towns with 3 lil auto ack in them and i dont think the new towns have anything to do with the degrading..

i dont blame the towns at all.. its the players.. if people didnt suicide dive into fully acked fields for 1 or 2 kills or suicide bomb hangers at 1000ft agl the extra acks wouldnt have been necessary..

I guess the history channel and my uncle lied to me! In the earlier part of the war, and even later bombers dive bombed fields, ships, and structures. The early b26's and lanc's i know for a fact liked to get above a target of opportunity and dive on it and just let go and see. Now we will be lucky to just see i quess. I'm not happy about the changes but i'm looking at it and gonna play for awhile longer and see what happens. I'm hoping that it will some how even out eventually.

the problem is people dont defend, so hitech had to make the AI AAA defend.

if people think sitting in easy killable AAA guns is defending you are WRONG.... get a group of people in the air and FIGHT.

i like flying the spit, niki, hurri, ki and other fighters that aren't bomba killaz. When bombers come to destroy the FHs which they do alone with no fighter escort on a suicide run then me killing them is not going to happen. I can't predict when they are coming and i am not going to fly around in a bomba killa waiting for them.

It is impossible to defend a suicide dive bomber whos only mishun is to kill the FHs so they can vulch when they come up. I have seen many FIGHTS ruined by suicide bombers. This will fix that and now when organized groups of base captures try to take a base we can defend it.

Overlag your premise/solution is flawed to a large extent. Most of the blitzkrieg base captures are the result of organized missions. By the time the HORDE has overflown and begun to decimate an airfield/town, it's often impossible to launch from the target field...due to the (insert numba here) vulchers pounding the runways.

Should the initial HORDE fail with their initial thrust and fizzle out, and then becomes an endless conga line...then it may be possible to retract gear without getting your AC blown to pieces. Otherwise the only alternative is to up form an adjacent base and hope for the best.

You imply that "getting a group of people in the air and FIGHT" is a viable solution. I'll give you that, if you can get enough folks up at the same time to overwhelm the HORDE. Trouble is, when the "ALERT AXX" call goes out, it's too late.

I'm all in favor of the increased number of base/town acks.

what about the countless amount of fields less than 25miles away from the base?

sure if it was a island 100 miles away from a friendly base, it would make sence what you said max..... but 25miles isnt THAT much to fly, and get an organised counter mission to hurt them...

as soon as you see a large darbar heading to base 1..... a few should up in flaks and panzers, while the large bulk of the defence ups from a base that ISNT being attacked, and attack the people once they are swaping the base. By now, they will be low, T&B trying to take out acks, the town and the few flaks around.. a group of 5-10 planes will easy destroy there base capture efforts.

and this leads to fights.... but we wouldnt want to do that would we.... we want the AI ack to do that.

i would say it isnt too late now.. the acks take alot longer to go down, so you should be able to do it.

if not... up a small mission to kill ack in town, and recatch it while the other side lands its vulches ;)

What you suggest does work...in theory mainly. I fly Bish mainly. No disrespect intended but unless ghi has one of his base capture missions planned, it's nearly impossible to get more than 4 Bish to organize ANYTHING :D

its the same for most countries.... but we need to KEEP trying, people will soon get to realize the only way to succeed in attacks AND defence is TEAMWORK.

attacks always had team work.... defence never really did... hence the need for more AAA. just saying.
