The main area of improvement this game needs is the bombing of bases, and the result of that bombing. Rather than bombing individual hangers, ords,barracks and dar, I'd prefer to see a Tons on Target method used (ToT). This way bombers dont have to be used down low. They can stay high, drop their ord on a base and rtb. The effect would be cummulative over 2 hours time. Each base size would have different levels of ToT applied.
A small base could be 100% until the following happens in a 1hour period. All cummulative within 1 hour.
Random effects- Radar Destroyed, 1000lb bombs unavailable, Cannon loadout unavailable, 50% fuel load only,troops load 1/2 strength
25 - 1000 lb bombs hit base area- ENY +5
50 - 1000lb bombs hit base area- ENY +10 ENY, plus one of the above effects.
75 - 1000lb bombs hit base area- ENY +15 ENY, plus 2 of the above effects
100- 1000lb bombs hit base area- ENY +20, plus 3 of the above effects .
125 - 1000lbs bombs hit base area - ENY +25, plus 4 of the above effects.
A small base wiuld receive its max damage at 125 bombs dropped in a 1 hour time frame. Any addition damage would not count.
A Medium base-
50 - 1000 lb bombs hit base area- ENY +5
75- 1000lb bombs hit base area- ENY +10 ENY, plus one of the above effects.
100- 1000lb bombs hit base area- ENY +15 ENY, plus 2 of the above effects
125- 1000lb bombs hit base area- ENY +20, plus 3 of the above effects .
150 - 1000lbs bombs hit base area - ENY +25, plus 4 of the above effects.
A Large Base-
100 - 1000 lb bombs hit base area- ENY +5
125 - 1000lb bombs hit base area- ENY +10 ENY, plus one of the above effects.
150 - 1000lb bombs hit base area- ENY +15 ENY, plus 2 of the above effects
175- 1000lb bombs hit base area- ENY +20, plus 3 of the above effects .
200 - 1000lbs bombs hit base area - ENY +25, plus 4 of the above effects.
A town would still have to be destroyed and captured as it is now. However bases would never fully close, troops and ord never completely destroyed. Just weakened in effectiveness.
This would make large bomber missions have a purpose, want to stay high rather than dive bomb, and allow players to up to defend their base, even if in a weakened state.
Carriers-
Carriers take a long time to get into position and can be killed too easily, even from 20k against a turning CV, by one set of B24s.
I'd like to see them hardened. Making bomb hits kill the gun positions and radar, but require torpedo hits to actually sink the CV and CA. Crank up the damage received by these two ship types, and crank up the torpedo damage. That way the ship would require a huge amount of bomb damage, or a few torpedos.
Gun Positions-
Add a torpedo station, much like the pt boat has, to the escorting DEs of the fleet. Once the CV has been destroyed allow the CA, or if that too is gone, one of the DEs to assume command and be able to steer it and attack other enemy task forces in the area. An option to "Retire" the fleet would be given to allow the CV to respawn back at the port, making the CA/DEs disappear if wanted, like it does now when the CV is dead.
Ports: Rather than ENY effected, a Port is affected by bombs, that relate to CV respawn time.
50 -1000 lb bombs in a 1 hour period inside port area - An additional 5 minutes to CV respawn time
75 - 1000lb bombs in a 1 hour period inside port area - An additional 10 minutes to CV respawn time
100+ 1000lb bombs in a 1 hour period inside port area - An additional 15 minutes to CV respawn time. (Max amount)
Town/ Maproom locations: Have them further away from the bases. Let both teams have to goto the targeted area, rather than the town being so close to a base. Fighting at the area where planes are spawning creates the vulchfests.
Strats:
Any factory be it Ord,Troop,AA,Fuel would affect the country globally.
25% of a factory destroyed would affect 25% of the country's bases
If a team had 20 bases, and its Ord factory was hit, 5 of them would lose 1000lb ord or greater for a 1 hour time frame.
If 100% of the factory was destroyed, all the country's bases would be effected for 1 hour.
All factories would be 100% repaired after 1 hour from initial damage.
HQ - The HQ would have different damage levels.
100- 1000 lb bombs- Reduces radar ring from HQ location by 1/4
150 - 1000lb bombs - Reduces radar ring from HQ location by 1/2
200- 1000lb bombs - Destroys all radar for the country.
HQ would repair to 100% in 1 hour's time.
I don't know how difficult it would be to make these changes. Most likely it would require a whole new game design. But in my opinion, if that is what it would take to do it, I think it would greatly improve gameplay.
