Gunnery practice
« on: November 23, 2006, 06:46:06 AM »
My gunnery sucks.............. I mean it sucks big time.............

I am regularly all over the bogie holding him between 200 and 400 and yet can I hit him...................... no

After a few attempts I often give up trying to target the correct lead and just spray the area infront of his nose.............

I reckon I must  break off and leave more bogies wondering why they are still alive than any other player.

So my wish is to have the off line drones follow random evasive flight paths that are going to challenge gunnery or at least implement some AI in a couple of them so I can practice with the lead computing to get to understand what I have been doing wrong these past 5 years of playing the game.

WARBIRDS had that feature offline as part of the game. I remember it was REALLY handy when I first started flying as practice for the Online Combat Flying.

I also would really like to see this here in AH.  :aok

Tilt, come to the Training arena and practice some with the Lead Computing Gunsight (LCG) on. Just ask around, you usually will find willing targets. The LCG will show you the amount of lead needed.... try to use it to memorizes the gunsight picture for different situations (angles/speeds)

Also, if you have continued issues with missing "shots that shouldve been dead on target" - check your internet connect. When i have "those nights", i usually have a flaky connection (no downright warps, just everything being off somehow).

Also what I found easier to gun, is to have a gun site with just a circle and a dot in the middle. This makes i easier to see your tracers heading towards the target. LCG will help alot too, or make a room in H2H for just you and a buddy or two, then turn down gun lethalty all the way (so you won't die) and then have him dive in on you or what ever tatic you want him to perform and keep shooting at him until u hit them (This also won't damage him. This will keep u guys from reuping all the time) This is how I use to do it. It helps, all these ideas help.

All this time I've been flying and I've never used the LCG - whats the command to enable it when you are in the arena??

Hit [ctrl+tab] to enable friendly lock.  Lock up your target with the [tab] key and it will show proper lead for that plane.  It only functions in the TA I believe--maybe offline as well?

It works offline, and in H2H, but offline is pointless, if u want practice gunning i actually suggest playing first person shooters, halo has to be one of the best for this, esp. when sniping because you have to move along with a moving target.  But if u dont have any dont bother getting it unless u really want to.
but i am also using a xbox controller so gunning tends to be easier for me than using a joystick

To enable LCG go to...
Options>Arena Settings>Environment>Arena Settings>Flight Model Flags> |X| Lead Computed Gun sight (6 one down from top)

Enjoy shooting at green +'s

Tilt, Listen to Schatzi!

Seriously a hours practice with the lead computing gun sight can make a world of difference. For the first 15 min just fly around behind someone, watch how the lead changes as speed/headings change. Once you actually learn where to expect those rounds to go it gets easier. Then its just 5 min off line or TA to "sharpen up" your eye before heading to your fav arena.

Key is to pick one plane & gunnery set and stick with it till you have it.

Thanks for the advice I will drop by the TA and chase a few guys around..........

Actually I did this last night and found two guys in C47's

Then another in a spit who just vulched/dived on an empty field then flew across a border.

Actually the TA terrain is quite neat (had to download it)..........

I am sure I will run into more sensible TA'ers if I persist:)

I'd have a better chance in running into a Dodo Bird in the middle of rush hour, walking down the I-5 with two hookers in tow before I see a useful post from glock89- Ack-Ack
