Being a DI has got to be almost as bad as being in Basic. Yeah, you get to mind screw the new cruits, but that hardly makes up for the lack of a life you will incur.

There's a bright side to this: at least it wasn't recruiting.

LOL, that was considered a nightmare MOS even back in the 1980s. I can only imagine what it's like today. I heard two guys from division HQ at the time talking about recruiters that intentionally failed drug tests just to get out.

You're not BS'ing about being "drafted" are you? I seem to recall that used to be a voluntary school. Tough as hell and about the pinnacle in military professionalism though. Congrats if you applied and were accepted, if not... you must have really impressed someone along the way. WTG soldier :)

How long is the course? Ft. Jackson is NOT a nice place to be in the heat of the summer. Very hot and extremely humid. Training halts are a regular occurance.

Congrats on the selection!

Shaping the new Army is one of the most critical jobs I can think of. Hooah!
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Woot!  Been by those facilities hundreds of times.  Someone mentioned heat and humidity...if you're leaving in June you'll be fine.

The worst natural element you'll have to deal with is all the pine tree pollen.  It is disgusting.  The wind blows and sheets of yellow dust come billowing out of the forrests.

That sure as hell ain't the boot I went to back in the 80's....disgusting, I'm glad I got out if that's how we're treating our soldiers.

Furthermore, if they think a tough boot is the reason for poor retention they have another thing coming. Years ago, there was no trouble at all, so I blame the softer younger generation as the problem.
