What? Work? Not me...

Working seems to be a problem for Rep. Kingston

Steny Hoyer tells the House that they'll finally have to work like the rest of us.

"I have bad news for you," Hoyer told reporters. "Those trips you had planned in January, forget 'em. We will be working almost every day in January, starting with the 4th."

"Keeping us up here eats away at families," said Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.), who typically flies home on Thursdays and returns to Washington on Tuesdays. "Marriages suffer. The Democrats could care less about families — that's what this says."

I didn't know being elected to the House means you don't have to work. Working usually helps marriages because—you know— it helps to feed their families. As C&Ler Brian says: "By the time the gavel comes down on the 109th Congress on Friday, members will have worked a total of 103 days. That's seven days fewer than the infamous "Do-Nothing Congress" of 1948."

The "do nothing" label fits. Mr. Kingston. You may remember him from his ridiculous Hardball appearance during the Foley scandal.

Would it be as funny if he were a democrat, or is it just republican laziness that's shamefully humorous?

One way or another, you may be sure Lew would not post about it if the negative story was about a Democrat. Its an agenda thing :)

I got a whole year away from family over here, and many others get 365+ day deployments to Iraq.  I bet he voted for the defense budget, so that means he's anti-family too.

Suck it up whiner boy Kingston, do your damn job and STFU.

Give them a small pension for their service, but yea I'm 100% for term limits.

My proposal is 80% turnover, 2 terms maximum, with 20% at any one time allowed to use a "party leadership waiver" to extend to 6 total terms.  Party leadership votes to see who gets to stay.

Sort of like survivor, but with a multi-trillion dollar budget.

Do ya think there'd be a few more posts in here if a democrat had done the same?

Oh yeah. There'd be an argument about which side is worse.

I think that laughing at this behavior is a bit ignorant, whether it's at the expense of a republican or democrat. Politicians, democrat or republican, through their laziness, corruption, stupidity, ignorance, what have you, are in positions to make all of our lives worse. Laughing at any of them for abusing or neglecting their responsibilities is like yelling 'I told you so' to somebody getting raped, all the while knowing that you're likely to be in line for it too, sooner or later. Comes across as a bit lame, whether it's coming from one side or the other.

William Nast was ignorant? Will Rogers was ignorant? Stephen Colbert is ignorant? Jon Stewart ignorant? You might disagree with their politics or their choice of target, but hardly ignorant.

I think finding ignorance in satirical humor is a little ignorant.
