Before or Now

All this stuff aside, I was wondering if I actually enjoyed the game better now or before the changes. What was our squad like before, how is it now. What was my fun level at then compared to now.

Personally, before the changes our squad held squad nights, which contrary to popular belief was'nt "Lets gang up on someone night", it was a night a bunch of us could fly together, re-tell old jokes, pick on somebody in the squad, feel welcomed.

Now..we don't have a squad night. Its just another night where a couple guys might show up. Each month less and less seem to show up at all. Right before the change I can remember most nights it being 90/90/90 in the MA. An odd night would put someone at 150, but it was'nt the norm and we all had our nights in the barrel. I was always amazed how for a game where the players had to balance itself, it did so well for so much or the time.

If asked if I liked it better before, or now, I'd have to say before.

Agreed.  I had more fun before all the changes (before the arena splits and the loss of the big maps).  I'm still clinging to hope that it will get better but I'm losing some every day.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Hmmmm

The best part of AH for me is flying with my squadies....

This has not been happening much of late but I think its more about the times I have been getting online than the changes...

I loved flying in EW but now when I logon there are like 3 ppl in it...

I like the ordered base capture system, because it get the players working to geather.

Yeah my only ****** is the lack of players in EW, the low numbers in general (when I logon) and not flying with my mates.

But again I think that is a result of the times that I have been logging on of late. Not the actual changes that have been made.

Well I for one am getting more.  My wife (who is not a paying customer) is really pleased with all the new changes as I come to bed on my nights off instead of staying up until 3 or 4 in the morning playing that farging game.  I now am more tired when I wake up but what the heck, it's still good after all these years.  I would say that for a lot of the old timers, the wives or girlfriends/significant others are more pleased with the changes than those of us who are the participants in that gawd-forsaken game that we were addicted to.

All the Best...

We seem to have lost more squaddies to lack of changes. There are times in the past when I enjoyed the game far more, but that's nothing to do with the changes. I always felt like it started with the advertising campaigns. The changes since september have been the first improvements, IMO, in a long time.

I have to agree 100%.  Most of the people in our squad (except me) have been around since the old AW days.  Now suddenly in the last week, we've had 1-3 of them cancel their accounts.  This alone tells me that something isn't quite right about these changes.
It sort of seems like we started off with a band-aid, had to go to a gauze pad, then a tourniquet, and now we're to the point of amputation!  What was so bad about the "old" system that has required all these changes?  I'm a firm believer in the old saying "if it ain'tbroke - don't fix it." (And for heaven's sake, don't keep fixing the fixes that didn't fix the problem in the 1st place. . .)
Perhaps instead of continiously reacting to each fix that didn't work, HT should go back to the original set-up, and start over again in a totally different direction.  At this point we've been taken on so many detours, I don't believe that we are able to see our original starting point anymore. . . .

It's still worth $15.00 a month. Jury is still out if I like the direction it is going.
Right now I woud say I am indifferent, soley based on the fact I am on only about 20 hrs a month on average.

My squad is pretty much gone............

Once in a while one may turn up and another plays pretty regularly but in a US time zone and usually mucks about with his grandson or son..........usually across opposing countries shooting each other down.

In fact its only because of him and his Grandson that I keep the "Squad"alive at all.

Squad members have basically gone their different ways to differing genres varying from "Eden" to "online poker" or "hearts". None have moved specifically to other AC sims although a large group of folk who we always "affiliated" with spend much of their time on IL2 servers or WWII online.

So I have not participated in a "Squad night" for like 3 years.

I pretty much tack onto what ever action and group of folk seems like fun.

I see this as a natural evolution of the game player................ the game cannot remain fresh and new for every one all the time and eventually even trying to catch elements of past enjoyment becomes a fruitless exercise. Stuff gets old and eventually boring.

I am very lucky in one respect...................... ........ I suck at this game.

So I enjoy what I think of as "golfers syndrome" that is ...........its always a challenge for me................

I even have quirky mental blocks about "learning stuff" the P38 is an enigma to me............. I have resolved that only when I know I have a terminal illness will I endeavour to master it as a virtual pilot.

The other thing AH does (and I am sure other games might too if I could be bothered to try them) is provide release from what ever trials and tribulations the day has offerred. It can take just one quick flight of 30 mins or some times it hooks me for a whole evening.

So at an individual level recent experiments have not had any great effect.

The 2nd incarnation of the "capture routes" did ensure I had pretty much constant action and action that was somewhat balanced locally but it was not very popular with the bishops and  eventually all we did was hold or slowly lose ground such that the conflict seemed to focus over the same  few sectors of the map.

What I miss is "events" that occur spontaniously. I noted last night an imaginative multi bomber raid last night by Rooks at a A19 recently captured by the Bishops....................

I think Squads enable these because they have core  organisation that makes stuff happen that other players tack onto.

The other enablers are the "charismatic" individuals. In Bishland that would be missions run by Ghi or similar others.................. however there is an element of the horde about these and its clear to see why.

The missions are run to succeed and hence the element of challenge is tailered to ensure a certainty of success.

Balance has little to do with this.

Filth:

Cant argue with the fact that some are having less fun, and that lots more are in "change overload" frustration.

Your memory of the numbers balance is way, way off tho. I've deliberately played on the low side for a while now, and that had been consistantly Knights for a long long time. In fact, I went ahead and joined a knight squad since that country just stopped catching up. There were evenings I could fnd a fun place to fight before the changes, and there were evenings that I jsut logged off.

It was a problem, especially since the previous "AH country cycle" of ups and downs had almost stopped for the last year. If you dont remember that way, just do a search..there were numerous posts about it.

What frustrates me in all these complaints is one simple thing: They're all focused on "me and my buds." I've yet to see any of the complainers really understand how the problems, and the solutions, affected people who are different than them, who enjoy different parts of the game.

I begin to wonder if thats because those who can see other peoples' perspectives realise there's less to complain about in the changes?

personally i have to agree with the majority of the posts here.  i can see both sidesofthe frustration, but also feel that the fun aspect of it , at least for me, has lessened with each passing day.   I logged into EW the other day, and actually had to wait in que because there were a total of 10 people on, and Bish had 6 people... to me that is just obsurd... I routinely log into EW and am the only one in country for quite awhile..... I still up, defend what I can, land kills, get killed, and have a decent time... I just dont agree with all of the constant changes.  Ours, like alot of the squads around, are losing people left and right... and its a sad thing too.... hopefully things will turn around, but at the current rate, I find myself wondering how much longer I will keep playing.... which is something I never thought I would see.... just my 2 cents

The thing I miss the most is  the ground war aspect. Huge armored campains. I used to spend about half of my times in tanks. Neither our small maps, nor the large one in LWO under "capture by number" rules can offer me opportunities for that.

Why wait, with only 10 people in the arena, you are just looking for a good 1on1, 1on2, or 2on2 fight.  Get rid of your chess piece loyalty anigma and switch countries and enjoy some good old fashoned dog fighting in the EW arena.  I coiuld possibly see the argument of being loyal to a chess piece in an arena lake LW where alot of people are trying to win the war, but in the EW and MW arena's it is more about enjoying dog fighting, switch countries if you have to  and have some fun!!!!!
