Do I think he's a good Secdef?

Not likely.

Did he make a whole pile of mistakes running the war?

Well of course.

Will many people catch the joke in this post?

Probably not.

I would love, I mean LOVE to have seen Powell named as SecDef instead of Rummy. Powell actually worries about the man in the field.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

When Powell was in uniform he was one hell of a stand up guy.  A great officer.
A soldiers soldier.  Once he traded the uniform in for a suit his capability was halved right away.  As time went on he became even less and less capable finally ending his tenure as SecState after a very disappointing performance.

I thank the man for his service but it is well that he has left the world stage.

With regards to the recently retired SecDef:
Rumsfeld served in the U.S. Navy (1954-57) as an aviator and flight instructor. In 1957, he transferred to the Ready Reserve and continued his Naval service in flying and administrative assignments as a drilling reservist until 1975. He transferred to the Standby Reserve when he became Secretary of Defense in 1975 and to the Retired Reserve with the rank of Captain in 1989.

What happened to Wulfie's posts?  There were three of them at the bottom of this thread last night....defending Rummie's performance as Secretary of Defence.

This from a guy who was one of the "boots on the ground" in Iraq.

The moderator's nuke them or something?  And if so, why?  I've seen a lot worse than that on these bbs before.

Just wondering.

Lute removed them himself, it appears.

This one is done anyway.
