How Many Mass Murdering Dictators...
« on: December 29, 2006, 08:32:00 PM »
....have been executed for their crimes?

At least in modern times?   Stalin wasn't.  Hitler wasn't.  Nor was Mao Tse-Teung nor Pol Pott.

Off the top of my head I can't think of one.

The execution of Saddam Hussein, while it is richly deserved, may be, at least historically, something of an aberration.

What about in a greater historical perspective.  Seem to me that leaders of the losing sides have been dying for millennia.

I suppose you could consider musolini as having been executed but it was not at the hands of the allies.

Tell that to Oliver Cromwell lol

While not hanged, the English still did some interesting things to that corpse.

Ceaucescu. And his wife. Not sure you could say he had a fair trial but he was executed.

Seems to me that the sovereign Cromwell deposed had a similar fate.  As Python (Monty) said, "The most interesting thing about King Charles I is that he was 5'6" tall at the start of his reign, but only 4'8" at the end of it."

Louis XVI lost his head too...

Steve, you ought to read some of the posts in the thread rather than just respond to the first one.  :p

If he'd only made it to France, Saddam would still be allive today and living the good life waiting for the world to declare his dictatorship "the only thing that would save Iraq".
