On Saturday 6th December at 6pm EST, the 68th Lightning Lancers will be
performing a memorial flight in the Special Event Areana for our CO, Bill
"68KO" Bundesmann, who passed away suddenly on New Year's Day. We know many
of you have expressed a wish to join and we would be honored to see as many
of you there as possible.
Our plan is to perform a 'missing man' formation over an airfield on the
Battle of Britain map. This was one of KO's favorite maps and was the area
where his favorite airplane - the P51 - saw much of its action during WW2.
Naturally, we will be flying P-51's. What we would like those of you joining
us to do is to up C47's and circle the base at 5000 feet. The 68th will
overfly the base at 1000 feet and as we do so, 68Falcon will issue an order
to the C47's to drop troops. Simultaneously he will pull up vertically as
the missing man, passing through the circling C47's and descending troops.
RADIO DISCIPLINE
We expect there to be a large number of people in the arena on Saturday and
for this to work in a way befitting the memory of KO, a lot of co-ordination
will be required. We respectfully ask that everyone keep radio chatter on
RANGE and the 68th's vox channel (168) to a minimum. You are, of course,
welcome to use your own vox channels.
GV Gun Salute
As well as the arial salute, we are also looking for a squad to volunteer to
line up on the runway in tigers or panzers and perform a 21 gun salute at
the point at which we overfly. If any of you would be willing to do this,
we'd be really grateful. Please let 68Falcon know.
ARRIVAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Please arrive promptly at 6pm EST in the Special Events Arena and go to
base A10,11 or 12 (South East England near Dover). This is a Knight
base so you may have to change country.
2. Go to the hanger and select a C47, troops and 50% fuel.
FLIGHT INSTRUCTIONS
1. As soon as possible, launch and climb to 5000 feet. Once at altitude,
begin circling the A10 in a clockwise manner.
2. As far as possible, try to maintain one continuous circle of airplanes
around the base.
3. The 68th will approach the base from the South West at 1000 feet.
4. As the 68th pass underneath, Falcon will issue a command over RANGE to
drop troops. Simultaneously, he will pull up into the vertical as the
missing man, passing through the middle of the circling C47's.
5. The 68th will continue on in formation NE. Please remain circling until
the P51's have left the vacinity of the base. Thereafter you are free to
land.
