Good.

I wish this was more frequently true.  I guess you have to live in Australia to be treated with some respect.

It's bothersome to me that there are people in the world that get off on watching other people die.

Did I 'get off' on something like that?  Or did I just point out that gun camera footage of a person getting shot is no different than gun camera footage of an airplane getting shot?

If the person died, you watched a person die.  Does it matter if he is in a machine or out of a machine?  No.

i don't know if you did or have or not.

i was just posing a question about where that line is drawn.

i remember seeing some gun cam footage of some iraqi's being mowed down by a gunship.  the people who were commenting on it were very happy about it if i recall correctly.

i couldnt help but feel a little sickened by the whole thing.  the reactions of the people commenting particulary.  i don't need to feel good about war or untimely deaths.  i don't want to.  even if or when it seems justified.

i hope that i never will.

Ah... Ok..

You see, I posted in that thread... Because a lot of people posted that they thought it was especially nasty because you could see people running.

I posted that if the only measure of life and death is that you saw little flailing arms and legs, then you need to get your compass checked.  There is no real difference between watching a little flailing man die in a gun camera and watching a plane explode in mid air... Or for that matter watching a video of the Hiroshima bomb.

Little arms and legs... Personal death scenes, they are at their root no different than video of a train wreck...

Anyhow, the idea that someone needs to watch Steve Irwin get stabbed... Or Princess Diana bleeding in the mercedes... It just bothers me.  Death is all around us.  Why seek it out?

I wonder if these folks that watch that kind of stuff would feel good if a bunch of teens laughed at a video of their death...  And if they do feel good about it, well then, I guess I have to hope that their dreams come true and some stoned teens do just exactly that some day.

I watched the helo video and felt no remorse over it. Enemy combatants plain and simple. I would'nt feel the same if I saw the Irwin video.

Thats a factor too I suppose... When you know that the people in the video are there trying to kill the guy shooting the video, you reach a more even par.  Enemy combatants.

Where as a vid like Irwin, watching that is just a perverse interest in death.

Steve Irwin specified that if he died on camera, to show the footage.

Too bad he's not around to enforce that.

How do ya know they were enemy comabatants?  I would figure the enemy would be well aware of our capabilities and probably wouldnt walk in a congested group out in the wide open, day or night.  But i guess those things do happen in war.  I always feel bad for the little kids whose mommy and daddy aent coming home.

Where was it that he said this?  I imagine if he was that intent on it, it would have been in his last will and testament.

Someone on the board here, I can't recall who off the top of my head, said that if you see footage of someone dying, you should feel 'guilt'.  He got pretty slippery when I asked why, and said I didn't have a conscience.  Mkay.

The widow, btw, is from where I live (Eugene, OR).  I'm both saddened for her loss and joyful that she found someone who brought her happiness.  Grief is like a shadow, the bigger your happiness in life, the longer the shadow in death.

If we are talking about the same video (and I think we are) the RPG's and AK-47's were kind of a dead giveaway. If you watch the entire video (about 30 mins) you will see they are following a pickup loaded with weapons.
