btw this new satellite would be launched on a iranian shahab-3 rocket.that is what makes a difference.

Are you sure about that, the Shahab-3 can barely manage 100 lbs to orbit. Not much of a spy satellite if you ask me. You say this story is "all over the web", could you please point me in the right direction since I can only find articles about Iranian satellites that are at least two years old.

If you cared to look at what was written, I said "helped" save you.  That help came in many forms, through lend lease equipment to not only just the Russians, but the British as well.  We also provided air support for operations to remove threats from your soil.  I am unsure of the number of (if any) US troops that set goot in Norway during WW2, but, we did our best to help (like I said) liberate your land.  After WW2 we did much to help keep you free of communist oppresion, lest you forget the Cold War.

All in all, I am a bit disappointed to hear someone actually suggest that they would like to see the US lose in Iraq.  It is sad, especially coming from a nation that we have helped so much in the past.  But, hey, I guess we should get used to it, remembering those that help seems to be out of style in the wonderous European Venue.

300 kg to orbit, yes that might become an ICBM. However the Iranians a lot of development left to make a 50 kg rocket carry 300 kg. I wouldn't worry yet, and in any case the IAF will deal with any threat should it arise ... or isn't that so?

The Jerusalem post reporting that according to two other sources an Iranian official allegedly told some students that they had a rocket ready … is hardly something to get excited about.

imho that shahab-3 weights a lil more than 50kilos.
but for israel it makes no difference.they sure have missiles to reach here.saddam had no problem bombarding tel-aviv with scuds, and iran isn`t much farther away.
the IAF can`t do anything with ballistic missiles.and i don`t think it would be so hard to overwhelm the ballistic missile defense system (patriots, hawk or whatever we`ve got) with a few hundred scuds launched simultaneously. if only 4-5 of those have nukes on their tips, they can consider their job well done.

history has shown many times, that even the most modern top notch army can be brought to her knees by way older weapons.

It can't carry much more than 50 kg to orbit. It can carry a lot more to Israel ... Israel isn't in orbit (I hope!). ;)

Viking, you spend enough time here to be considered one of us. Belonging to a group needn't be a physical presence anymore. Consider yourself, at least this part of your persona, one of the AH community and therefore not necessarily anti-american.

Perhaps we need a definition of our society here? :D

I honestly appreciate Vikings contribution on this bsb.  I think he is an intelligent person, but one that I don't find myself in agreement with very often, yet... I believe we share the same basic human values of freedom and individuality so I am glad he is here.
