WOW, Aces High 2?!?!?

Ok, sorry if this has already been posted by losers like me that finally stumbled into this place, but WOW why have I not heard of this game earlier?
I have been looking for a good flight combat sim FOREVER.  I tried lock down or whatever it was, and IL2 and thought they all stunk.  Played them for a few days.
I was an old Aces High player way back and loved it.  Then ww2online came out, played that off and on for a few years then just kinda fell into a pit of doom as I could never find the games I needed to suffice my gaming addiction.  I can't tell you how many MMORPG's, Sims etc I have played and very rarely are any of them worth mentioning.  The gaming industry sure did hit the crapper imo in the past years.  Of course, I have been predicting this for some time as more 'rushed' releases or pushed out by publishing companies, but I digrese.

Anyway, just wanted to say HI, and wondered if there is anywhere I should start first?  Just fell into this tonight, and it's late - I'll have to research this tomorrow and check it out.  Hopefully it was as fun to play as the first version eh?  That game lasted forever.  Long after 2nd and 3rd gem online games where out.  I was very surprised to see the AMAZING amount of posts in these forums.  They beat some REALLY mainstream games.  Heck it even comes close to many WoW forums in post #'s.

Any other Combat sims I am missing out on out there?  Especially jet

hehe that's great to hear.  I'm a complete newb to it.  That's INSANE considering I am ALWAYS on the prowl for good new games.  Used to be I had more than I could ever play.  As I am much older now, with 'responsibilities - yuck', it's harder and harder.  Sad as it seems there are SO many fluff or bust releases out there.
Big fan of MMORPG's like WoW or a lesser known Asheron's Call.  But a friend and I were always into flight sims, especially combat sims since the c64 days!  We played Aces High for a bit then migrated to ww2 then of course the MMORPG's sucked us in.  Since then, it's been a rather long battle to find the 'fix' for the flight sims/combat sims needed.  Especially ones you could play online with a BIT of realism with it.

I'm excited to try this tomorrow evening.  Just noticed the online fee.  OuCH!  Oh well, I'm not currently subscribed to anything atm so ...might as well

I'm really glad they offer a trial.  I'm always amazed that companies do that.  I wonder if it really brings in more players or if they 'get their fill' within those 14 days.

14 days is enough time to get addicted to the game, then you'll have to subscribe.

Don't be put off by the sub cost.  

Lets see the dollar is real weak at the moment so It is about 8 Pounds sterling a month which is peanuts.

At least once a month I have a dogfight that is 1 vs 1 that may last for more than a couple of minutes.  If you come across someone with equal skill and it becomes an all out turn fight and it has you on the edge of your seat.  For those brief seconds of thinking watermelon you may lose then turning the tables and winning is worth putting up with all the smack talkers and griefers.  This keeps me addicted and paying.

People have been playing this game for several years and it has a steep learning curve.  You cant cheat and if flying simulation is what your after look no further.

I like harder sims.  SIMS is the keyword here.  Not arcade game.  Sim being used too much in the gaming world.

I loaded it up real quick before sleep yesterday.  Graf(x) were...eeeeeeeeeeeh, but, I don't care about that once I am up in the sky.

The big question I have is, does ANYONE here know of or personally play head to head (ip to ip) with someone on a modem?  My brother is still in the dark ages, their modem will not go higher than 28.8 and his wife refuses to let them get broadband as it is a 'waste of money'.  

He would go nuts if he could play this...

There is a forum called Free Multiplayer that has all the guys doing their own 8 player head to head games.  Scroll on down a bit on the main forum.

Graphics improve greatly if you have a good system.  You can download the high res packs and play with the land, water details.  I run all my settings pretty high, and although I don't have the Polaroid Picture of perhaps a MS Flight Sim 2004, I can fly with more than 4 people around without lagging to death

Where'd you hear about AH2?

Please seek medical help now!  AH is very addictive!!!!!!!! I tried to kick the habit several time but it pull me back in.
