There are 10 minutes of good light each day, 5 in the morning, and 5 in the evening, according to some famous photographer for National Geographic...looks like you timed it just right!
Thanks Rip. I shot them in JPEG. I tried a bit in raw, but I can't really see the difference so I stopped. This was even after a guy I work with (who I consider to be insanely talented) said as much.
Only one image was post-processed, this one:

This is an HDR image. The rest were simply cropped.
As for 10 minutes of good light... I dunno. I started shooting fifteen minutes before sunrise and stopped about fifteen minutes after. I shot the railroad crossing last, about 30 mins after sunrise.
Of course, I'm a gross amateur. What do I know.
