Very limited?  How about none.

I love it when people are dissatisfied with the answer one person gives them, so they go and ask another even though it won't change.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Did you ask your mother?
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

i wonder if any of these or F8Fs (which were - and this is really funny, so wait for it - according to Grumman test pilot Corky Meyers the BearCat was two weeks too late for WWII combat:lol) or F7Fs (which the USN started receiving in 1944) were involved in the big Tokyo Bay surrender flyover....

see any?

Nope, all I can identify are Corsairs, Hellcats, Avengers and Helldivers.

Same for me Treize, although you never know.  Those Corsairs could be -4's with 4X20mm...

Maybe when we get the AH Korea arena, you'll get your wish Kong.  They'll have the F4U-5 then and you can shoot down all the Mig-15's you can HO.  It'll kind of be like the Hurri II versus P-51 fight in the LWA's.

Nobody is questioning whether or not they existed.  We know they did.  However, just as in your last thread discussing this same issue, we will emphatically state, unless you can prove otherwise, they did not see any combat.  There is much history to support the existence of the F4U-1C during the Okinawa campaign.  But, that was a -1A with 4X20mm, not a -4 with 4X20mm cannon.

F8F, F7F, P-72 are all planes I'd love to see, except for the fact that, while all existed and some were even in theater, they didn't see a shot fired in anger.  I'm sure some of those guys that like the German rides would love to see some of their gadget planes that were produced in micro-quantities modeled as well.

Learn how to fly the F4U-4 well, and you will rule the skies in AH2, without the need for the cannon.

Just to be thorough, I looked at the complete listing of U.S. Navy aircraft for the month of September, 1945.  While I saw numerous references to F7F's and a few F8F's, I saw no mention of any other -4 than the plain -4.  The list is fairly exhaustive of all other types of F4U's--Dash 1's, 1A's, 1D's, and 1C's.  But there are no F4U-4C's listed.  I'll post the link in case you want to read it yourself--I may have skipped over them in my haste.

Not necessary Stoney, thanks for your time and input. we can go round and round about info, books, web pages etc..

I fly the F4U-4, It does do very well. I love the 1-c cannons though. I Hate the numerous 50 cals needed to bring down planes.

I like some of your wishlist planes also :)

I don't see why, if they were in production, but didn't fire a shot we can't use them for fun.

Krusty summed it up the best in his reply post (Why? So you can out-run all but 3 planes in the game (tempest, 262 and la7, 2 of which are perked), out-turn 90% of all the planes in the game, outroll all but spit16 and 190D, out-dive everything including P-47s, decelerate so fast your face would rip off and your eyes pop out, pop flaps at all speeds and gain endless lift with almost no drag, and easily shoot down any plane from any angle at ranges up to and including 1k, with enough ammo left over to land a 20-kill sortie without rearming?)

That pretty much sums up an F4U-4C, cept I think the 4 is faster at alt than the tempest.

Landed a 10 kill sortie the other day with the 4, but needed to rearm twice. The cannons would have saved time
:t
