That's good info, thanks for sharing.  I've got some cans of HOK paint, a friend who builds hotrods will be doing the painting on the R2-D2 project.  Industrial Light & Magic was kind enough to share the HOK formula for the R2 "blue".

If you aren't painting regularly .. . ie: workin in a body shop or some such ..

..do yer paint gun setup on somethin not important .. flat sheet of metal or an old fender layin around. Take your time an 'get it right' .. so it feels comfortable for your technique.

ie:
1) Puttin enough product down fast enough to not orange peel, and not too fast to sag or run at the speed/distance from target you are comfortable sweeping with,
2) Spray pattern filling from top to bottom, not thin/thick in the middle.

All of the above change by paint type and manufacturer. HOK recommends 8" or so distance to target for sprayin their stuff .. see where it works best for you :)

Ohh 1 thing to add.
Some HoK paints have HUGE metal flake in it.
Fluid tip/needle selection is important.
Go to small and you will clog the gun.
To large and you risk run/sags.

I always loved the look of the SS stripes. Pretty simple, but gives a really cool effect.

Bronk, I`m going with the F65 Mini Fireball flakes.
I have been waiting for the temp to stabilize a little so I can control the situation a bit better. It`s 16 degrees here now, but warming up nicely today and through the weekend into next week. I am hoping to do some stripping either today or Saturday. I have one small tank ding to fill....then it`s Katie bar the door. :)
