I've been ritually cutting myself until the release of new maps.

I'm sorry if I came off sounding so harsh, but this whine is old and tiring. I've been flying for years, started on airwarrior. We had two maps Europe, and pac. That was it, they never changed. You played the game to bomb, and fight and take land, the map was just something you ran into sometimes.

HTC has done a great job with a map rotation, granted it does get the same map in all the arenas once in a while, but big deal, again the map is just something to crash into once in a while. Its not like anyone is running any kind of strategy !

I know a couple of people who have made maps, mostly for the AvA arenas. They have said they will never, or never again make a map for the MA. Why, because you can't please everyone, and those that you can't are usually the more vocal ones. These guys spend their precious free time to build these maps and then get ridiculed and harrased for not doing it right.

HT and company are busy maintaining the game and building TOD, they havn't time to add new maps right now. So all that leaves you with is build your own and submit it, fly what we got or move on. Crying about the same maps being in rotation doesn't make the game any more fun so why bother. I'm sure HTC would love to have 50 maps or so that he could drop into rotation and make everyone happy. I'm sure they know its a problem a lot of people would like addressed.... just run a search on these forums! But lets just not beat this old horse any more.

I'm sure down the road we'll get new maps, new planes, updates on the F6F and nik art work, and many other things they have on the drawing board that you don't even realise you want yet! Give them a break ! Heck think of the work Skuzzy would get done if he didn't have to monitor these boards !

you don't seem to have been around long, and obviously don't know the history of AH, and what has and has not changed. you have not witnessed when there were only 4 total maps in the entire rotation, and they were over 2 years old each. you haven't seen a player-submitted map get put up and the incredible whines about it, totally knocking the months of effort that player put into making a map. you haven't seen the "backlash" to new map layouts and strategies that were intentionally built into their design.

this sort of goes for everyone in AH... until you have made a map, and gotten it approved and used in the MA don't bother complaining about it. I tried and got about 1/2 way through, and basically gave up it was so complicated to make what I really wanted to go for in terrain design. I don't bother complaining about what map is up, though I may say some maps are up longer than I'd like, but that's only because I don't care about the whole "win the war" thing, and it is my own fault not helping newer players understand what really is needed to "win the reset". so I let them go on fighting their own battle they think is important, and I look for the best furball / fight.

Yes, you must be very thick skinned and pay attention to the number of positive feedbacks vs negative. So far as I've seen, I've yet to get more negative than positive.

Now this is just for general information, there are many shortcuts that can be taken but here is a bare minimum of what is required for a 256mile MA map.....

1) A playable layout must be created
2) 262,144 points of elevation must be set on the terrain
3) 262,144 terrain textures must be placed on the terrain
4) 60 fields must be placed
5) 60 towns must be placed
6) 120 vehicle spawns must be placed
7) 21 strat objects must be placed
8) All supply roads/tracks/barges must be created
9) Weather (clouds) must be created
10) The entire terrain must be error checked

At any point during steps 1 through 5 any unanticipated glaring deficiencies (advantages for one side) can make you start at step 1 all over again.

I hope this helps explain why terrains take so long to make.

I think we should only have TT map all the time.  Once the center is captured by one team, the battles to take it back really begin.  I just can't get enuf of it, when it goes I cry, when it comes back I dance.:noid

Now THAT would be a great idea! One map the size of TT island in place of one of the late war arenas'. Spawn points spead out some, forcing tankers to drive some to get to the battle. Funneling terrain with distict edges. Add strat targets and force the tankers to defend and resupply....

Then the rest of us can get on with the war.

I think the issue is Host Reset of Maps. How the helll it got whacked out of proportion is beyond me.

Is there some tech reason HTC doesn't reset maps manually anymore?

Is it a long process robbing HTC of Development time?

Mozilla Firefox has a built in spell checker.  PLEASE consider using it.

Am I the only one that, when reading a long wall o' text post, will quit reading and move to the next post if there are ton's of spelling and grammatical mistakes?

I tend to skip over single huge paragraph posts.  Typically they are not worth my time reading, and rarely have anything to say that is worth considering.

Granted, I am not asking for perfection, as I tend to be lazy when I post, but cripes at least make the effort people!

(Not directed towards anybody in particular, just an observation.  I am suffering AH withdraw right now, and am in quite a "mood")
