Don't use HDValet from Ziff-Davis
« on: September 25, 2000, 07:00:00 PM »
I was using AH on my Uncle's PC while on vacation.  I downloaded AH and everything worked fine, until I rebooted his PC.  After a reboot, AH would GPF.  Reinstalling AH would fix this....until we rebooted again.

I found the problem was a utility that he got from the Ziff-Davis PC Magazine web site called HD Valet.  This utility deletes temp files associated with various applications when you shutdown the PC.  It would delete .tmp files and files in various temp directories.

The problem was that it was deleting all files on his hard drive with the extention ".res", thinking they were temp files for Visual Studio.  Unfortunately there are files in the AH directory that end in ".res" and it was deleting them on shutdown.

Just thought I would throw this out there.
