Complement to "Check Six"---"Good to Go"
« on: March 07, 2007, 12:29:05 AM »
Hi all,

Ever had the feeling you are fighting your own countrymen more fervently, for the kill, than the guy with the red icon?

I have, and I absolutely HATE it!

The Fix:

A "check six" like communication (ie "Good to Go" or "stay the hell outta my fight") that can be toggled via hotkey to let everyone within range know that you need no assistance, and can handle the situation at hand.

Thoughts?

I switch sides and kill them. Not really effective, but more rewarding.

I'll find another con and kill him. Or will find place with less greens. The time i got myself pissed off if somebody stealed my kills was passed long ago.

btw, why dont just tell him F'off with voice?

Oleg, not to worry, the modification would not affect you. You could keep getting your kills stolen and keep telling people to F'off on range. Thats fine by me.

I think the people who don't like getting their kills stolen would benefit the most from this idea.

If you aren't looking for them, you won't see them.

I never jump into a 1v1, unless asked.

Everyone likes to turn the thought around into an ego induced whine, rather it should be looked at as a matter of  common courtesy.

I don't think it has anything to do with "kill stealing", but more along the lines of a good fight cheapened by a cherry picker.

Say I get jumped by a really high 38 while Im cruising along in my 38. The fight goes on and on till we are both on the deck looking for that one kill shot after an intense 5 min fight....... then some cherry picker comes in and kills Ack-Ack, and instead us talking about a good fight where I finally kicked his butt, were both screaming at some dweeb who ruined a good fight !  :D

Mark me down for a "yes" on this one.

The key here is that the AH community needs to teach & guide those who are always arriving. Unless we teach them the right way how are they ever going to learn?

Sure a full blown furball with numbers of cons on both sides is an anthing goes kind of affair.

But if you feel like your fighting your own guys for a kill maybe your doing it wrong. If you tackle with an enemy and fight him from 10k down to the deck, and a friendly just blew by you and stole the kill, explain that to him.

Explain why it was wrong and what he should have done. Don't lose your cool, don't go off on him. Just calmly suggest that next time please ASK first.
Be polite, and don't piss him off. Chances are he he either didn't know better or thought you were in trouble.

Part of the problem is the increased numbers online, part that we constantly lose a stream of good solid classy guys and replace them with 10 - 20 new pilots who are just eager to kill something.

Part of it is that good manners start with us. You see 2 greens fighting an enemy, don't dive into that. 2 on a con is more than enough in most situations.

If you run across a 1 vs 1 fight, stay clear. If it looks like your teammate is losing you might ask him if he'd like a hand. Besides, if you stay out, stay high, and he does lose, then that con is all yours. Your sitting high in the drivers seat.

Stop being greedy for kills, you see 3 easy bombers inbound for the base, don't fight to see who can get there first. Coordinate, so you both go home with a kill.

Keep a sort of running tally in your head of

Good guys who check 6, cover friends, help out. stay  close but don't steal their kills.  Be helpful, polite, and friendly. Don't send multiple check 6's for a single bad guy. But if it looks like they didn't see someone, let them know.
Who knows you may eventually get a squad invite from them.

Stay clear of Horde flyer's, they always run in a pack. They wouldn't know what to do with a 1 on 1 fight if they saw one.

Remember bad guys, kill stealer's, guys who dive right through you chasing someone, causing you to killshooter yourself. Guys who will unload on a plane falling with 1 wing left, or tailless, or burning they are that desperate for a kill.

You do me wrong once fine, anyone can make a mistake.
You make a habit of doing me wrong, and I'll make a habit of not sending check 6's. Not clearing your 6, and leaving you alone to fight that horde of reds.

Its all up to us gentlemen, by word and example, we show and teach whats allowed & whats not.

If I enter a zone, I attack red. I dont necessarily know that the fight has gone 5 minutes, and if I see others (friendlies OR enemies) entering the zone I just might do what I can to finish things before the situation changes.

That might look like picking. But it isnt the intent. And, when things are stable, I'm as likely as not to ask "You got that guy covered, bud?"

But most of the offenders are grabbing any kill they can, any where they can get it.

So, I have to ask -- Doesnt this idea assume that the friendly has enough good manners to stop attacking when you tell him to?

And doesn't his action usually mean that he lacks that courtesy anyway?

EDIT:  Ghosth made better points....nvermind

There are alot of people in here who strictly cherry pick, kill steal, and gang. We all do a little of each from time to time, but some make a living at it. Its the only game they know. Some do it because staying alive is their game, and by being ultra careful, their shot opportunities come down to picks. Anything else would get them killed. Some do it because they never learned anything from anyone.

I get this mental image of a fat mentally challenged lad, with a helmet on, strapped into a bumper car, foot held down on the go button, and just relentlessly spinning around the floor smashing into things, with a blank expression on his face.

The vets are as bad, or worse, than the newer players are. They are this way not because they don't know any better, but because they want to be. Stats, rank, pissing the friendly off? Don't know, but lately, if you don't blow the guy up, you can count on a lot of folks diving past and spraying until he hits the ground. I don't think a "bugger off, I've got him" button would work.
