Possibly Remove Ostwind with another flakpanzer
« on: March 22, 2007, 07:05:03 PM »
I've been doing some research about certain vehicles in Aces High when I came across something real odd about the Ostwind, it is used so often in Aces High Arenas but...

Only around 50 of these tanks were ever produced during WWII

I hope I am correct because I have not seen this information about the Ostwind elsewhere besides (The link is at bottom of page) wwiivehicles.com

plus, an article from wikipedia indicates that the Ostwind was not widely produced flakpanzer (Yet again, the link is at the bottom of page)

We could bring in the Wirbelwind Quad-mount 20mm Flakvierling, or the Mobelwagen Single-mount 37mm Flakpanzer with a raised Cost since their productions were not very great either

Postscript: Please pardon me if Another thread was already posted relating to replacing the Ostwind                       http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostwind http://www.wwiivehicles.com/germany/flak-panzers/ostwind.asp

I don't know much about the production numbers of the Ostwind but I'm sure someone else does, HOWEVER, I'm going to voice my opinion that HTC will never remove one of their creations that they've taken the time to make and fit into the game.

I say yes to the wirbelwind though.

The Wirbelwind was based on the Pzkfw IV chassis, same as the Ostwind. So when Pyro gets the perk ord working for the F4U-1D/1C, he could make the Wirbelwind the standard variant, with an option to take the Osty's 37mm gun in place of the quad 20mm.

In this case 4x20 option must be perked, not 1x37.

Unless they add belt reloading in MGs in the future. The Wirbelwind was magazine-fed, and the poor loaders had a hard time keeping up re-feeding the mags into the guns. Dont remember the mag-size, but I recall something around 20 rds per mag. Thats not a whole lot considering the ROF per gun.

[edit] 15rds per mag

Ok so If I get you right Keiler you start with 4x20mm with 20 rpg each.

Thats 80 rounds of 20mm without much convergence. At any distance under 600 that should HOSE planes from the sky. Then pause to let gunners refil.

OK that certainly sounds doable to me. Just need to make an ammo counter with it that only lets you expend the ammo thats actually loaded. That along with a given rate for reloading should work just fine in game correct?

If HT wants to get fancy you can model killing off loaders, so it would load slower and slower as it came under attack. Becoming less and less effective.

Still seems like a winner to me.

Make it so HTC!

I doubt we will see anything like that given that IIRC the ostwind is magazine fed and there are no reload pauses for that.

All it will do is force planes to attack Gv's at higher alts, and from steeper attack angles.
it will still be highly vulnerable.

I have an idea for the ammo counter:

15/20
fire one bullet
14/20
use one magazine
15/19
left side represesnts ammo in clip while right shows number of clips:aok

...Thats the point, hose planes out of the sky, we already have computer controlled fixed gun emplacements for the Quad-Mount 20mm Flakvierlings in AH
