Its that time of the year again fellow hockey fans.

Here are the first round matchups:

EAST
#1 Buffalo Sabres vs. #8 New York Islanders

#2 New Jersey Devils vs. #7 Tampa Bay Lightning

#3 Atlanta Thrashers vs. #6 NY Rangers

#4 Ottawa Senators vs. #5 Pittsburgh Penguins

WEST
#1 Detroit Red Wings vs. #8 Calgary Flames

#2 Anaheim Ducks vs. #7 Minnesota Wild

#3 Vancouver Canucks  vs. #6 Dallas Stars

#4 Nashville Predators vs. #5 San Jose Sharks


Some good match ups in theres. The New Jersey series and the Nashville series will have most of my attention this round.

Who's got what predictions for this years cup finals?

Im shooting for Buffalo and Anaheim.

You messed up the #5 and #6 seeds in the west.  My team is gone so I'll go Nashville and Buffalo.

San Jose in #5.

It sure feels good to be back to the Playoffs! GO PENS! :D

And any of you who really aren't that into hockey might want to check out the Penguins/Senators series...  They're two of the "flashy" young teams in the league and the regular season contests were always entertaining.

Sidney Crosby's (NHL leading scorer @ age 19) playoff debut, Wednesday night, 7pm EST on VERSUS.

You mean they aren't on strike again?????

The MLB strike in 1994 is what killed that sport for me and if I was a hockey fan the last strike would have put the old dog out of its misery for me as well.

The strike is old news. The league came out after with more die hard fans then before. It also renewed the game with the new rules. The new rules made for more hockey being played in each game, rather then scoring 3 goals and then burning time off the clock.
