Gamma/Contrast/Headache REVISITED
« on: April 12, 2007, 09:40:34 PM »
Got rid of my headache!!!

I have a CRT monitor.  Samsung 997DF 19".

I calibated my monitor, and found it was nearly exactly where it should be.

K was set where it should be.  Which I think was 6500K.

Tried AH again.

No help!

I tried rasing GAMMA in AH all the way to 1.8

No help!

Tried adjusting Gamma with my monitor.

No help!

Finally ............

Adjusted K from 6500 all the way up to 8500 on my monitor!

Also adjusted Gamma in AH up to 1.5

WORKED!!!!!

Ground looks MUCH better!

Nice GREEN colors!!!!

No headache!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flew for over an hour and NO HEADACHE!

Could see GV's and evil red ikon types quite well!!!

NOTE:  Reports SEEM to state that the higher K settings MAY burn out a CRT sooner!!!

You will have to look for your K setting using the monitor menu button!

Should be inside the color pallette selection.

If your monitor doesn't have a K setting then??????

Ahh dude, I have glasses and I have NO problem with any other PC game BUT AHII, and several other people are having similar reactions/problems!

Some have called HTC and others are waiting and hoping for tweaks to be done within the arena that will HELP them!

its dark for me too, and I'm not willing to permanantly damage my monitor just to temporarily play AH.

I understand some have no problems with it, but CLEARLY there are plenty that do have problems as well. Problems ONLY in AH, and only with new patch.

It will be fixxed, I have other games to play while I wait- no need to damage my sony lcd :D

No it didn't.........

While you enjoyed yourself, I didn't find YOUR humor funny.

But I must confess I don't care for sarcastic humor very much anyway.

Seems like it's almost always used at someone elses expense.

Actually I'm not familiar with LCD monitors.  So I'm not sure what I suggested for CRT's would work?

CRT monitors are not "damaged" by increasing gamma, but increasing light levels will decrease lifetime. However, if AH is too dark you will only be increasing light and wear to the normal level you used to have before the update.  LCD monitors are not affected at all.

I really dont think its a gamma thing. and I dont think any gamma settings will make it better.
Its a shading thing. Too little contrasting shades to make one form distinguishable from another (mountain to vally, hills etc Even with detail settings turned all the way up its still wayyy off.

Looks right and fantastic when your on the ground.
If you havent ridden around in a GV yet. do so and you will see what I mean.
On the ground its beautiful
but somethign gets lost once your airborn in a very major way

Increasing gamma doesn't fix the problem, but it helps a lot. However we shouldn't have to increase gamma by 40% to make the game playable for aircraft. Despite all the improvements, a clear sunny day in AH is so far from what it should be that I cannot help being annoyed at HTC.

At high altitudes, it works great because there is much more contrast between the ground/horizon/sky interchange.  Much easier to see which way is up at 20K.  I know a lot of folks don't fly that high, but if you do, check out the difference in how well it defines terra firma from the air.

My two cents...

Yep, I can't tell where the ground is when I'm low.  Been having to fight at mid to higher alts the last two nights.  Lack of contrast low gives you no orientation as to where the ground is.  Was in mid-mesa for a while tonight and the rock-faces on the tops of the hills help a little but once your on the green carpet it's anybodys guess.

BTW, did we lose plane shadows?  I looked occasionally tonight hoping that would help and never saw one.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

If one has to adjust the monoitor to play AH2 and then adjust it back to play other games then something is wrong with AH2 not the monitor...

Trust me, it's not the monitor. There is just not enough contrast between dark & light.

Gives me and most that I've talked to a headache.  Game needs to be "brightened up" a bit  IMO
