Planes To Try
« on: April 15, 2007, 12:45:24 AM »
Lately I've been looking for something other than the same old.

I usally fly the

Spit 16
109G-2
(I have landed 6 kills in a P-38L even thou I fly it for the rocket capacity and ability to hold its own against fighters)

I'm not the best pilot but I'm half decent.  :)

Any suggestions on which planes to try ?

I like to T'n'B but I also like to have the ability to climb or Run if I get in a bad situation.

P-47D-11
P-47D-25
P-47D-40
P-47N

Best birds in the game right there!

Now they will seem a bit heavy at first but once you get used to it there just like a spit:aok

P-40E
Spitfire mk I
Bf-109E
Hurricane mk I
B-17G
Ju-88 (Landed 6 A2A kills in them one night, all of which were kills earned dogfighting)
Me-262
Me-163
Boston III
A-20G (Also a decent dogfighter)
SBD Dauntless
TBM Avenger

F4U-4 = Best prop fighter in the game. It's perked, and for dammed good reason.

F4Us in general are among the top of the list, but the 4-Hog is definitely THE best in the game.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Different, T&B, and able to climb?

You may find what you are looking for in Jug or Hog.  Read up on them re> strengths and weaknesses (good advice for any plane really). P-47D11 is the "lightest" Jug, which has some advantages.

I won't go into any low ENY planes, but you could try;

Ki-84 "Frank"... nice vertical fighter.  Quick.  Good WEP.  Decent weapons.  A little soft, lack of armor leads to pilot wounds.  Can definitely climb, and run from all but fastest planes.  Might fit your flying style.  It's my favorite T&B plane.

Try a Yak.  Fast, quick little planes.  Can be fun.

Spit-9, Spit-8, Spit-V.

I'll list my top picks and explanations:

All-time Favorite:

Ki-84
This plane is one of the best "balanced" fighters. It's got very nice speed, sizable ammo with 2 12.7mm MGs and 2 20mm cannons, excellent turn rate, great climb rate, and the best acceleration rate of all the prop planes.
Downsides are it's got very little WEP, compresses very easily (watch your dives), and is susceptible to pilot wounds.

Other Favorites:

C.205 - great climb & turn rates, good speed, TON of ammo w/ 20mm cannons. I've found it to stall easily though at low speeds

F4U-4 - As someone said before, the best overall of all prop planes (in my opinion). Ton of ammo for it's 6 50cal MGs (no cannons however), superior turning w/ flaps, climb rate is superior, speed is superior. Also doesn't compress easily, and you can drop your gear at 400 kts!!! Woot

Hurricane2C - The best defensive plane in my experience. Turn rate is unbested except for the A6M2. Rolls great, and has nothing but 4 20mm Hispano cannons for offense. Downsides are it has very little ammo, isn't that fast, and doesn't have a great climb rate

P-47D-25 - My favorite of all the heavy fighters. Excellent speed once you get it going, and can actually turn pretty well if you use flaps. Has a gazillion rounds for it's 8 50cal MGs, and you can easily slap some ords on it for ground attack. It also takes a serious beating...very rugged aircraft. This plane is one of the best for town offense as well

Yak-9T - Lots of people don't like this one but I think it's a great little plane. Awesome speed and a superior climb rate. The big thing with this plane is it's 37mm nose cannon. This gun is basically a one shot kill. One hit on a wing will rip it right off. This plane is well suited for defending bases against bomber attacks. It gets up quick and has a huge punch

Typhoon - If you want some quick boom and zoom action, jump in this thing. It is the fastest of all the prop planes, and packs a serious dose of hurt with it's 4 20mm Hispano cannons. It retains E extremely well on climbout, but it doesn't roll or turn well at all. Keep your speed up and don't get too low

N1K2-J - This is another well rounded and balanced plane. Excellent turning, decent speed once it gets going, and lots and lots of ammo for it's 4 20mm cannons. Don't try to outrun pursuers in this plane though, they WILL catch you. I use it for turn fighting and limited boom & zoom capacity

Well those are my top picks.
To the OP: Hope you find a plane that best suits you!
