« on: April 10, 2001, 03:15:00 AM »
I just got this new GF2 Ultra vidcard.
after i installed it I was getting 60-80FPS.
I went into settings,messed arund a little,and my FPS dropped to 15-30.
I reissued default settings,FR stayed the same.
Can someone please help me out, what these settings should be,to get best quality and performance?

sys specs are:
AMD 1.2Ghz CPU
asus A7V motherboard
518 mb SDRAM
SBlive soundcard
seagate 7200rpm HDD

Thanks

Go here: http://www.guru3d.com/
and download the GeForce Tweak utility.  select FAST SETTINGS.  Anymore questions go to the Forum on this page, very useful info and lots of fast replies.

Its Anti-Aliasing, makes those little jagged lines just alittle less jagged, at the cost of frame rate loss.

Would I find that in CP Monitor settings?

You would find it under the advanced settings  of your video card, most likely in CONTROL PANEL/DISPLAY.

Again, the easiest thing to do if you have a GeForce card (after tweaking your system as Bloom suggests in the above threads) is to download the GeForce Tweak utility http://www.guru3d.com/

and select FAST SETTINGS tab in the lower right hand corner, but, make sure V-SYNC  is ENABLED, or you might end up with some funny gunnery business.  Then SEND TO TRAY button.

I don't think the nvidia vanta card is considered geforce 2 but I'll try your suggestion on my own card which is.

NVIDIA suggests installing Detonator 3 drivers with his, or any, nvidia card. Since his system is new, he might already have the D3...dunno.

btw, I tried a couple of Blooms tweaks on my machine the other day...they didn't seem to make a difference tho I started with FR's in the mid 70's (600x800)

The only way you can tell is by using the a AH benchmark:
Aces High 1.x - BENCHMARK TEST PROCEDURE FOR the PC

                1.
Verify that you are running the current Aces High FE
                2.
Ensure that no other programs are running in the background
                3.
                  Start the Aces High program
                4.
                  Click Video button
                5.
Choose video resolution and check 32 bits of color resolution (65,536 colors)
                6.
                  Click Offline button
                7.
Terrain distance shall be set to medium (shift F2)
                7.
                  Go to Setup
                8.
Click Terrain button and select ndisles terrain
                7.
                  Go to Hangar
                8.
Select B-17G with 100% fuel, 24x100 lbers and MG
                9.
                  Go to Map
                10.
Select country (Bishops) and field (A1)
                11.
Click 'H' button (to go to the hangar of F1)
                12.
                  Start engines with idle throttle
                13.
Press 'CTRL-C' and choose Clutter off
                14.
                  Bring up the clipboard (Esc)
                15.
Hit home key to assure you are in default view
                16.
Press 'Ctrl-I' to get the FPS value displayed in the screen
                17.
The FPS value will be fluctuating. Record the average value, during first 30 second

Hiya Dmax,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that Nvidia Vanta card is NOT a GEforce card, it's a TNTII and worse yet, it's a crippled version of a TNTII. They are junk and shouldnt even be called a TNTII as they give lower framerate than a TNT I. It has 1/2 the memory of a true TNTII and also a 64 bit data bus as opposed to 128 bit. It is an absolute bottleneck to your friends system and no amount of tweaking can help it.
He really needs to get a decent card to match his system. Fortunately they are very affordable these days and almost anything he would find, depending on his budget, will give a huge boost in framerates on his system. Tell him to post here with the amount he would like to spend and we can help him chose the right card.
