We are getting POUNDED here in SW Connecticut with torrential rain. The flooding is on such a massive scale! Thus far i've seen about 30 houses with 4 foot deep freaking lakes in their back yard! As for my house, everything freaking stinks because I have a foot of water in my backyard and everyones septic tank is over flowing. My basement has about 3 inches of water right now. At my cabin, I no longer have a dock, The water has come up so high the dock has come off its moutings, and its somewhere under water....Im letting my camera charge, and i'm going to head out and take some pics and post them here...

goodluck to anyone in this region with your home and property. this sucks

Gross! Be sure to mop your floors with chlorine bleach when the water recedes. Chlorine kills the pathogens in sewage.

Dang! You might want to think about shutting the power off. I think I’d throw the breakers for the basement at least. Do you have a sump pump? Are you on any kind of a slope?

Work like mad to get the dry stuff upstairs ASAP.

As a verteran of MANY Houston floods, Eskimo knows what he's talking about. Bottle up as much fresh water as you can and move vital items up as high as you can get them. I grew up in a 2 story house and we used the 2nd floor has a lifeboat more than once.

Unfortunately this is not the first time that I have experienced basement flooding. However, since this is not a new pain in the arse to me, everything in the basement is kept in waterproof plastic bins, so I don't have to worry about anything getting wet. Furthermore, at the first sign of flooding I did cut shut off all power to the basement. I do have two sub pups...Both drain down to 1/4 of an inch, so they are a big help, however, the rain hasn't let up, and right now is pretty much just a battle of keeping more water out than whats coming in. In the meantime, back to the water dungeon. I will post the pics when I get this damn thing under control.

I dont have a basement so I dont have to worry about flooding.
though my backyard is a 6" deep pond. which is the worst I've ever seen it

Only thing Im experiencing here is my phone service is screwed up
Calls are going out just fine. But Im getting few incomming calls with alot of people telling me they have been trying to call. Some (different people) saying they are leaving messages on my answering service but no messages to be found when I check

Ok now add to that it seems that parts of about half of the major roads around here are now closed.
Including parts of Rt1 about a mile from my house.
I have NEVER in my life seen Rt1 closed without there being a major accident

What are the rain totals in your area? Cav, you have TWO sump pumps and the water is still coming in?!?

Holy crap. There's no way my sump pump (and backup) could handle that either.

Wow ~ I lived there for quite a number of years and never saw rt. 1 closed w/out accident either.

Couple of years ago we had 41 inches in 3 days.... that is a little over normal for here. We do have 5 anf 10 inch rains fairly often at times.

Power went off this morning and I spent part of it getting stuff up high in the basement. Then got a gas powered pump, put the hose thru the window, made a plywood cover so just the hose passed thru and sucked the water out of the basement. I went to town for more gas and when I returned, after all that work the power came back on. But if I didnt do it, my luck the power would have been off for days.
