Bill Clinton on Larry King Live: Virginia Tech
« on: April 23, 2007, 06:24:15 AM »
The wife was channel surfing last night just before I went to bed and caught this interview.  Larry King questioning Bill Clinton about, among other things, the Virginia Tech shootings.

After the initial question of what his thoughts and emotions were when he first heard about the shootings, Larry got around to broaching the "gun control" question;  leading Clinton to say the usual leftist comments about the failure of the gun control system and the need for changes.

But he got NONE of that from Clinton.  Bill described how he had vetoed the gun-control bill calling for instant background checks two or three times because he preferred to have the three day waiting period with the background check.  Clinton further stated that while some have concluded that the background check system had failed in the Virginia Tech incident, this was NOT the case.

The background check system worked as it was supposed to, said Clinton.  IF the shooter had been properly identified by the mental health system then the background check would have flagged him, and he would have been unable to purchase his weapons.

Clinton ended with the statement that the Virginia Tech shootings resulted from a failure of the mental health system, not the gun control system.  :O

Wow.  I'm impressed.  Rather than jump on the bandwagon with some of his fellow democrats and try to make this into a political issue, the former president took the high road, spoke the truth as he saw it.....and hit the nail on the head.  :aok

Regards, Shuckins

p.s.   Whatcha bet this is given short shrift in the mainstream media....if it's even mentioned at all?

No NO NO,
Dems won't touch gun control. They loose way to many votes. Mr. Clinton (reguardless of what people think) is a very smart man and he won't want to loose those votes. That is why he is called slick willy.

Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton  Can someone else run for President PLEASE!

The clintons are still running the DNC as a personal fiefdom controlling the funding of the party. As long as they are in that position they will continue to play politics any way they can to get their power base elected to the Whitehouse and Congress. Once in power, they will show their true colors knowing they will have a free hand for 2 more years in Congress and 4 in the White House.

Mao said political power flows from the barrel of a gun, in the clinton's case it flows from the DNC check book to the office they want to hold.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

democrats know they will get their butts handed to em if they let their true feelings out about restricting the second.

They have learned and they keep quiet about it until they get power.   It is more  of a hot potato to them than abortion is to republicans.

They know that more people will buy guns after these shootings not less..

People are not dumb.. they know that the only protection is the protection they provide themselves.

You know, I wonder. Aside from a few hard cores on the issue politicians only care about getting elected and staying in power. Perhaps the bucks they get from Soros etc. aren't enough to matter anymore compared to the lost votes in the redder states that might be conservative democratic with a little push. How many antis would even make this a single issue voting thing? Not many compared to the pros. So, why not drop it as a "Democratic" issue and replatform moving forward with a focus in other areas?

Not that it won't rear it's head again after 2008, but maybe not...

I'd go with Toad and lasz on the take that they will wait until after the election.

They'll make sure they have both houses of congress in on it, too.

Kinda like NAFTA, Lot's of people thought Clinton would Veto it. He's the one that made it happen.

This was my line of thinking a few days ago, although I have evolved a bit from that view.  Im going to cut bubba some slack here, I think he might have evolved some from his previous ignorance.    Plus, I think the democratic leaders have finally realized that their initial loss to the republicans in 94 was a direct result of gun control measures they pursued and enacted into law.

Also, was at a well stocked gunshop this weekend (buying a new shoulder holster) and noticed a very beautiful Colt M4.  It had some sort of special markings from Colt on the right side of the receiver that made it a more valuable rifle.  They wanted $1300 for it.  Should I buy it?  I think so :D
