I'll throw this one up for ya....it's a pony clip. I'm far from the best pony driver (not that I'm the best anything driver:))....but the pony leaves me hanging anytime I get to cute....

I'll let others chime in, my only comment is simple...against a good stick all it takes is a single lapse in attitude. I get just the slightest bit distrated by the spitty (he never engaged) and whatever that subtle something you need is (in my mind i'm always looking for the shot even on the defensive) went...and watching this (1st time) I could "see it"....and i payed for it. so my own comment is simple....dont worry about the "other guy" killing you when the guy your fighting can do it just fine on his own:(

humble,  I couldn't resist watching the film and commenting.

Other than the fact that you decided to turn fight a P-38 with a P-51D you did a great job.  Good use of flaps and extension when needed.  I thought you were going to get him on the snapshot about 1:20 into the film but you evidently fired ever so slightly too late.

The only mistake I saw was that you followed him into a quasi-rope at the end.  You slowed to ~65 mph over the top and didn't have the E left to manouver for the escape and that's where he finally got you.  This almost happened to you one other time earlier in the film but you rolled out sooner.  P-38's at those speeds will chew a P-51 alive in the vertical.

And you said you were'nt that good in a Pony.  Bah!
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

I looked at it a 2nd time and also realized I lost him in the vertical there at the end....I think I actually ended up turning the wrong way....goes back to the "lose sight, lose the fight" comment above.

Both clips Dichotomy posted were against good sticks....under those circumstances it doesnt take much. When I happened across this cleaning stuff up I thought it would be a good one here because it is well flown. The 38 makes no major mistakes, I manufacture one decent look (very similiar to the A-20/38 clip BTW) and then just get worn down.

I never disengage from a one on one....I'll extend enough to "reload" but thats about it. As a general rule I'll fight anything in anything. You have a window of "equal footing" (IMO) where a fight is ACM vs ACM more then plane vs plane. If your in the "inferior" ride you run the risk that eventually you'll just run out of options....however you can also catch guys sleeping or truely unaware of what your plane can do. The A-20 is a good case in point, I killed a 262, pony, tempest and Ki-84 on the same hop earlier this month and my best landed sortie was 8 kills (all air to air). I view myself as "good" in anything and "great" in nothing. What I will do is fly the full range of ACM in anything...if your fast, I'll get slow. If you go vertical I'll grab the under. If you go slow i'll try and speed you up and then go all angles on you. In the end you need to find some aspect of the fight that favors you and try and exploit it. Alot of the time thats simply doing the unexpected....

Definately a must watch.  I was paying particular attention to your engine work and how to get your plane to turn.  Something I've 'learned' intellectually but still miss instinctively thus far is you really shouldn't have your engine firewalled all of the time in a fight.  Forgot that last night and dug a nice hole in the ground trying to help out a countryman.
