First off to all you newbies: Alt-F4 closes the app immediately no questions asked. If someone tells you to press Alt-F4 for any other reason he is a jack@zz.

It may have been funny the first 8 million times but it's getting old after 10 years.

Don't you think this game is hard enough to learn for a newb? And don't tell me they can just read the manual. Anyone can read the manual, but few can recall all of it & try to learn to fly this sim at the same time.

This community depends on new people joining & staying. The more people playing the more that Hitech can put back into the game.

And what do you get out of telling someone to do alt-F4 anyway? That makes you superior, just part of the hazing process? Trying to get your first kill in the MA is hazing enough IMHO.

you really think AH newbies don't get the joke?

I got "Alt+F4'd" the first few days I was in AH and asked a question. I laughed. Answered "Bite me". In the meantime, someone had given me the answer I needed.

No biggie. I got it. I'm just guessing someone computer savvy enough to turn on a computer, connect to the Internet, use a web browser, find AH, download it, install it, create an account, and log on isn't going to fall for "Alt+F4".

If you really want to start a crusade about text buffer nonsense, try to get people to stop complaining about HO's, runners, and cherry pickers. That's my pet peeve. To each his own, I guess.

Probably a lot of them do. Probably some of them don't.

I'm with Rauchen. I don't think it's a terribly funny joke. And if it drives even a few people away, I think the marginal utility is not high.

It's a little bit of a pet peeve of mine as well. I'll generally give a straight answer when I see someone say alt-F4 unless I feel like being a banana in which case I try to make my answer semi humorous. You say it's getting old after 10 years, it's getting old for me after only 4 ish years.

You know, for most of what you've said, I agree. however let me tell you the tail.....

A very well known player in The Unforgiven was flying one night in a 262. I won't say his name but he is someone I consider a vet in as much as he should know better (we'll call him SpiceDeath for the sake of the story). Squad vox went something like this - and forgive me, I can't remember the perp's name.

SD: "What's the key to switch viz modes? I forgot"
Perp: "Alt + F4 aint it?"

Silence

I check the channel box

Me: "Oh for f**ks sake, he believed you!"

A couple of minutes later

SD: "You F&$&ers!"

Channel ceases being usefull for a good 10 minutes while we collapse in convulsive laughter.

While treating noobs to this old, old trick is indeed old, this was priceless.

LOL ack-ack, reminds me of another one I heard a few months back, its a good one but requires a careful setup. You have to convince someone that they can rearm in the air by flying below 150ft agl, and below 150ias, and then hit alt+tab. Havent been able to pull it off yet.

LMAO hes tell the n00bs on here. Like they read this. Alt+F4 is a joke get over it. If you have a computer and don't know what it does you shouldINt own a one.
