This happens A LOT to me while flying IL2s compared to other planes, but I've had it happen all the time over the years.
I think because the IL2 is especially slow and can accept TONS of damage is why spinning, inverted, screeching "ditches" are allowed.
Heck, I was shot up last week in an IL2 and wound up inverted, on fire, missing all tail surfaces, and one wing, and had a pilot wound, and hit the grass fairly hard and with good speed. By dumb luck I slid all the way to the runway in this state, stopping in the middle of it.
And I was awared a clean landing and full perks for my kills.
Tough plane, that IL2...
