How often should this scenario occur in game:  You lose your tail section at low altitude and start spiraling down in a flat spin.  You hit the ground and then exit for a ditch?

I did this last night and someone accused me of dishonest things.  Now mind you, if I were in a real P51 and this had happened for real, I would expect to be killed on impact.  However, we are in a game, not reality.

It won't happen very often. You would have had to be pretty low and slow in order to get a ditch.

I have often wondered the same thing ... but for the amount of times it happens ... not a big deal.

It probably revolves around the fact that HT hasn't / can't / won't try to model (which I think would be complex) whether a pilot can actually survive the particualr crash at hand.

I have seen some funky crashes on the news where people have survived and I shake my head and can only wonder how/why ?

It's all about the game code.  It is possible to ditch in very shot up aircraft, so long as you stay level, slow, and don't hit anything hard.  Probably all comes down to the speed and angle at impact.

As to the person giving you a hard time: usually they are not worth the time to bother with.  If it was over channel 200, it is part and parcel of monitoring that channel.  If somehow a PM, you've always got squelch.

Pah!  That's nothing.

I got wings shot off low and fast.  Hit eject and my return to tower buttons in rapid succession, and got a LANDING!  The death still showed up in my score, but my name went up in lights for the kills I had already scored and the perk bonus was landing-ish.

I think I have a film of it.

Personally, I think if your plane is out of control and you get a ditch you are very, very lucky. I don't think it happens very often just a fluke probably about as random as it would happen in real life.

Hell even at low speed fights right on the deck, if you lose a wing or a tail it very rarely ever results in a ditch. Meaning once you can't control the aircraft anymore you are almost always going to crash.

Only time I think I've ever pulled off a ditch at high speeds, was when I hit the top of a hill trying to climb over it while chasing another player. He died on impact and I got the kill.

I knew I was going to hit too so I pulled up on the stick as much as I could so the tail would hit first. Ended up hitting the ground somewhat sideways and slide up the hill for a ditch. I know I was going over 150mph but for what ever reason I still got the ditch.

I assume it was shot off and the person is upset because he didn't get the kill?? Not real clear on how you lost your tail section.

I have had this happen to me at least once every night for the past week or so.

For about every 20th sortie , I end up low and slow , usually inverted , get shot up , loose the tail or wing , and end up just sitting there in the cockpit.

At that point , I end the sortie , and it is a ditch.

For a few months it never happened , and then all of a sudden , every night it seems to occur.

I am not complaining, it is just odd.

It was a N1K took the tail off my 51....

Later in the evening I was in a FM2 and was set on fire by a faming zeke (these things are like molotove cocktails).  After a minute dive to the ground I managed to ditch the FM2 and got hassled for that as well.  I used to think that being on fire was a in game death sentence but if you get it down in a decent amount of time its a ditch.

Another thing that was odd last night was being in a TIGR doing VBas defense and I was hiding in between a row of bushes and a building when an NMY TIGR came into view about 100 yards away.  I hit that TIGR broadside with AP on the flat panel just above the wheels at midsection.  Got the sprite, not the deflection.  Then the TIGR turned to face me directly as I was facing him directly.  I squeezed off another AP round and hit the TIGR directly between the turret and the body on the gunners side.  Another hit flash.  But the TIGR was not fazed and fired a round at me and I was killed instantly.  Seemed a bit odd.  Tiger vrs Tiger full frontal assault and one did not even smoke while the other (mine) instantly died.

Last night was odd for me.

This happens A LOT to me while flying IL2s compared to other planes, but I've had it happen all the time over the years.

I think because the IL2 is especially slow and can accept TONS of damage is why  spinning, inverted, screeching "ditches" are allowed.

Heck, I was shot up last week in an IL2 and wound up inverted, on fire, missing all tail surfaces, and one wing, and had a pilot wound, and hit the grass fairly hard and with good speed. By dumb luck I slid all the way to the runway in this state, stopping in the middle of it.

And I was awared a clean landing and full perks for my kills.

Tough plane, that IL2...

I wonder if it's more common with the older aircraft? IL2 kinda buggy, methinks, but P51D not, if you see what I'm getting at.

I wonder if 75% are in older planes, and maybe 25% in newer, or if almost all are in older planes, etc.

Not counting the upside down spit1 floating spin, that's confirmed as a bug :P

slightly off topic but u guys know a F4f can fly in circles until it runs out of fuel with no horizontal stabilizer
<----done it, till someone saw an idiot flyin in cirlces an decided to blow off my wings, then things got tricky
