I was going to post about just how much this idea sucks, but I skimmed through the other posts and found that everything has pretty much been covered.

I'm so tired of "rank" potatos.  lol.

Ive jumped in many field guns/5" guns, etc when a base or ship was being attacked. I sux at that and would be happy if someone would text in the local channel that they were willing to help if a gun was available.
I'd hand over the gun I was in instantly....I'm just using it cuz nothing else is available right away..

Just a thought.
If you go to a base or ship that needs defended and can get a pretty decent hit rate with a Field gun or 5", say something in the buffer....

Rank should be done away with all together.  Just put a time limit on how long you can control the CV after you sign a list of who's next.

The thing is, no much how much more training, how much more practice, there is always someone, lots of someone, who are much better than you.

Now, if this is the real life military, where being better means life or death, I'd want no one else than the best of the best using my equipment. However, this is a game. There's always someone better than you. If we start using some kind of a competitional ranking to determine who is qualified to enjoy something and who not, then this would be the most awful game for someone to be in. Hey, why not start ranking who gets to fly fighters and who gets to be only in bombers? WW2OL, anyone?

The great part of AH is you can enjoy some of the most exciting vehicles WW2 had to offer, in a real-time virtual-warring environment. Everybody has a chance. Even those who are unfit, unhealthy, old, really young, bad eyesight, colorblind, and on and on and on. As long as you are a 15-buck subscriber, you can grab a plane and soar, or be in a gun and blast away.

Just because some clueless, sucky n00b wants to be in a gun, and be dismayingly inefficient and terrible at it, doesn't mean someone with a higher rank can come in and just push him away. The n00b is as much entiteld to a gun battery as is anyone, regardless of rank. That's the great part of all this being a game, and not a real war.

Everyone pays 14.95 a month to play ALL of the Game, Limiting what equipment you can use because of your Rank would be a big step backwards in game play, WWII online implemented this and the game took a big nose dive in playability.

I was a beta tester and was with WWII online from date of launch till 3 months ago, I got tired of seeing new players NOT being able to use ALL of what the game offered and what they paided for, so they either they hung it out as a lonley grunt ( couldnt get nothing else sense rank plays a part in what you can do) or they left which i have done, even-thou i had General ranking in Allied and Axis Persona's

OK, I think I understand what the point is. I am new to AH and my gunnery sucks. I have been in the TA learning how to use different guns. I have worked with several peeps kind enough to be target drones for me like Optiker, DaGhost to name a couple I can remember. However it doesnt really come together until you are in a real shootout.

So, here is my counter point:

How do you go about gaining the skill to the level where you would be satisfied with a newb like me operating field/ship guns?

I have jumped on field ack many time, I acutally got a few kills in one particularly crowded defense, although for the life of me I cant figure out how I hit anything. Yes I worked in the TA on them and I have had several peeps in game in MA "Splain" it to me. Still I dont see  how I got the kills I did.

So I put it to you, where and how do I get this acceptable level of skill?

Kaybay good point as i am also trying to figure this feild gunning INaccuracy
of the feild gun sights, one time I can kill a C47 or bombers flying 2k -2.5k out from the feild but when fighters are within 200 straight and level flight either coming towards me or going away i miss them every time?

I have seen full blown arguements in country chat about someone moving the carrier, taking command of carriers so on and so forth. I just stay away from the task forces all together.

How could a new player "rate" sitting in a gun position

Why not have a gunnery test that could be taken in the training arena.?

Take the test to get an initial gunnery rating.

After the initial test your rating could improve or decline depending on your accuracy.

Yea, you maybe right.

Another thought is make it so that only players who are loyal to that country get first dibs on CV with a few other criteria thrown in as well.  But that is counter productive of keeping the arenas balanced.

P.S.  Another thought is to take away control of the CVs from the players altogether.  The CV will automatically start weaving when bombers are approaching.
